Dear Friends,

January, 1974

Greetings tn the New Year as we all begin to live another year serving our Lord, whether in the USA or here in Mexico. We know that the year ahead holds many adventures for us all, if we will fust follow the path He has laid out for us to follow. But as many things do, this year has started out rather slow with nothing out of^the ordinary happening.
The month started with the visitors leaving that we had for Christmas. Not all of the visitors

left at the same time though, several stayed a few weeks later and helped with the work iri whatever way they could. Some worked in the barn, on bedrooms, or on my desk, as well as other jobs . For me, of course, with the returning to school, it meant the return of the job I came to do, and that is helping the children with their studies. That can really be a job, since many of the children prefer to ploy than to do their homework and I have to go and find them; and that becomes difficult sometimes since they just seem to disappear after school. The week after the children returned to school, I also returned to language school, taking the second course during the evenings. That really makes 'he day long with classes ending at 9:15 and then having an hour and a half trip home . But, I'm getting pretty good at driving in Mexico City whenever necessary, so I don't really mind it too much.
All of the children didn't return to school when the month started, Isaias has graduated from secretarial school and now has a job in a nearby town where there is an agricultural school. She really enjoys her work and, of course, the money. Another one of the boys had taken a job in the brick ovens and in the middle of the month wcked seventy-two hours straight

firing the furnace. He was really tired and slightly dirty when everything was finished, but
again he enjoyed the extra money which he received fo.* 'he work.

God must have been watching over Us very carefully last month, since we didn't have any major accidents or mishaps. Just a rather smooth month for the beginning of another year. Do hope that your month was as uneventful gs ours with a minimum number of problems. If we seek God's help He will always see that each month is that way.

I mentioned in my first newsletter that later I would include some pictures of my apartment^ so with the slow month I will do that in this letter. (They are on the back.) May God continue to bless you all as He is blessing us here in Mexico, now and in the year ahead.
God be with us all as we serve Him CMU msKwI Adios amigos.

As normal on Christmas Day, the children in the house are the first to get up, but here we had a surprise for the early risers, they had the privilege of washing the dishes left from the night before. This kept most of the chiIdren in their rooms. Here is our tree just before the gifts were opened. It was

really a pretty tree and a happy sight that morning with all the children around it with their presents. The first thing the children sawafter getting up was
the jungle gym set which was made for the children., They enjoy it very much even with wet paint and chilly weather. That morning was spent passing out
the gifts, which had arrived from the States or were

for someone else in the family. The kids really enjoyed opening their presents and watching others open theirs. All the toys aren't one person's, but really the whole fami ly's. The rest of the day is then spent with the children playing their new games and just enjoying the day. The meals for the day are the leftovers from the night before and are enjoyed until they are gone. The next day things

Dear Christian Friends,

What a wonderful month this has been, with so many things happen!ngl The biggest news of all is that Christ is alive and is our Saviour; it's in His name that I greet you again this month. Because of His precious name, there is a new comreqation in Mexico City. It

started with this family that was baptized during t^mdntfT,' Merlyn and Noe had been
working with this group for about five months, and on the last day of their classes they decided to accept Christ as their personal Saviour. What a glorious Sunday that was as
with many others already attending and learning abouTGhfrsf's worideifut love .
Along with winning new people to Christ, the work at the Home continues. During the month the red van was in the shop for repairs
and the shopping had to be done, so Wanda
and I went to the fresh food market one

we saw these people become God's children. The new church is meeting in their home ^

morning, and this ts what we came home

with: a rather full station wagon, with just

enough room on top to see through the car keeping things low enough so that we wouldn't be accused of transporting things

illegally here. All this food lasted about a week. Talking about my car, there is a correction to be made you
can put sixteen people in a Pinto

rather than just twelve, if you put the

seat down. Just one problem: regardless

of how many are in my car, the kids keep telling me that I should buy a bigger one; mine is just too little . I think that it's just fine for what it is used for, regardless of what they might say.

Av^arch also sow the additton of this

little one to our farm family. He is a

doll, and thanks to him we are now

getting fresh milk again. But, of course, he wasn't the only addition to

this family In the month. The pigs also kept up on their end and gave us quite
a few little ones.

Last month I told you about the new children

which had come to the Home during the month.

The last Saturday of March we had a very fun and interesting event take place. We loaded all the family (sixty-five people) into five vehicles and went on a swimming/picnic. What

fun we had, it was all worthwhile even the sunburns which we all acquired during the day.

Thank you ail for your support during the month whether financial or through prayers. Both
are necessary to exist, but the latter means a lot when you are away from those you love and at times feel that you are all alone in the world. God be with each of you, especially as the
time nears that we remember Christ and the life which He gave so that we can live. It's in

Dear Friends,

Greetings again from Mexico.and the place where things always are going on, and there is never a dull moment. This month was no exception to that rule. Many things took place; here are just
a few for you.

Forme the month started with another session of language school, which meant a daily trip into Mexico that took six-hours for a class of only three . This usually meant that by the time I got

home I was already tired and still had half a day to go, but I did enjoy school and am getting
more confident and better with speaking Spanish these days.

This month was one where things started one way and then ended another. We added the roof to
the third section of the barn and then the

house, which will be Merlyri and Wanda's

school. Then comes Saturday well that's a workday. Here the boys are Irrigating and transplanting in the garden while the girls work inside.
What a busy day!

As the middle of the month came, it was time to

remember Christ and His death and resurrection

for us. This day was spent in a sunrise service

which was really nice. At this time, as we should the whole year, we do remember Christ
and how He suffered for us so that we might
have eternal life with Him.

At this same time we hod the Yornells visiting us with their three children. We really enjoyed their visit and hated to see them go.

While the kids were on vacation we had a Ping Pong tourney which we all enjoyed, even
when scores would reach 30-28 of the third game. Valente and Cruz were the excited winners even though it doesn't show In this picture.

The end of the month show Merlyn and ' three of the boys leaving for the Kiamichis. They enjoyed the trip and Gonzalo came
in third irTthe'boy preacher contest.

VVhile they were gone, April 30, which

is Children's Day here, came, so all the children had a party at school. Every one enjoyed them very much, even Pablo
in the afternoon when he got to share in all the goodies. Here Enedina is giving him a piece of popcorn. But the day

wasn't happy for all, Roberto came home in a hurry with a large cut in his leg that required stitches, so off we went to the hospital. We thank God daily that with fami ly of fifty-four we don't have more serious injuries.
HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!

I hope your April was as enjoyable as ours, and 1 pray that each month will find you walking closer to God as I know we are here. He is so wonderful and gives so many blessings. God be with you and I'll see you all again next month.

Dear Friends,

Greetings again from Mexico in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ. It is hard to believe that

the year is half gone already. It is probably going fast, since each month so much happens around here; and this month is no exception to that story.
The month started out with another trip to the hospital with Juan and ^ possible broken foot after the usual Sunday afternoon "futbol" game

Our month started out on a sad note as the mother of six of the children came to take them back. Five of them went with

her and her husband, but after a week she realized that they

could not care for them all properly, so two of them came back
to be with us. We do ask your prayers for the Arces family as

for awhile. In the picture on the front page was Chata and Petra working on mattresses for the boys, since sleeping on the floor gets rather hard after putting in a hard day's work around the
house.

The group we were waiting for was from the

University of Cincinnati. They were really hard workers and were very much appreciated by us. The house really looks different after each group is here and has done their share on some project or other.

The month ended with school closing and graduation for five of the boys from primary school, which is a big ceremony since that is as far as many Mexican chiIdren go. With all the activities near the end of the month I wasn't able to get their picture, since some went to the States for the month; so I will try later. I hope all your children enjoy vacation as much as ours, but mothers, how we feel for you; just think of fifty-one children all home
at once.

I had a rather interesting month and am looking forward to July as well. Next month I will
be attending the North American Christian Convention in Anaheim and will be looking forward to seeing some of you there also. Thank you for your help this month in its joy and sorrow. I hope God gave you all a happy month. Bye for now, and I will see you all
next month. Hastalluego.

Dear friends.

Another greeting from the land "just south of the border . . . Mexico way." The Lord provided so many

blessings this month, it's hard to know where to begin. These were both spiritual and material, but we
do thank Him for all, and it's in His precious name I again say hello.

The last of July to the first part of August was the World Convention of the Churches of Christ here in Mexico City. All the independent missionaries hod a booth, and quite a few participated in it, and many others attended . Several nights we took some of the older children to it. They seemed to enjoy it, especially the Mtlligan College Choir, which even came out to the house one day for lunch and to sing for the children. What a great group! We really appreciated it, since their schedule was so full.

they finally arrived on the 5th, and in the truck was a commercial size double washer, a dryer, and clothing for us. We really do like the washer; surely cuts down on the number of buttons I have to sew
back on.

Last month 1mentioned that Merlyn had left for the States to bring in some supplies for the house . Well,

the Project Challenge organization in California. Again, we really do appreciate such groups, especially me, since again the girls stayed in my apartment. This group really brightened up the house, since they
painted several of the rooms.

On the 8th the last group of college workers came to spend a couple of weeks with us. They are from

second again, which is the third year in a row. Maybe eventually (next year), we'll get first. All the
kids seemed to enjoy everything there, except for two the heat and the mosquitoes.

Our family grew to fifty-five with the return of Martin, Norma, and Hermelinda to us. Their mother just couldn't care for them properly, so decided it would be best to give them up. We had to shave their heads to get rid of the lice, which were so bad that they were embedded in their scalps leaving
many sores.

Again, construction work continues, this time with the completion of two bathrooms and one remodeled. Surely makes a difference. As things are going now, we hope that shortly the office will be moved to
its final place.

Well, ne>d month things will be getting back to normal here as I know they will there also. God be with each of you as you continue living your life for Him . See you all next month, with the main topic
of SCHOOL.

Dear Christians,

Well, another month has passed with the work of the Lord continuing here . He has provided so many blessings; we are always amazed at what He can do-for those who trust in Him . And in His name, I greet
you again.

Wanda, and .their family goinj^n a real vacation after several years of planning. They really seemed
to enfoy'the break. They traveled east to Veracruz and then over to the Yucatan. While they were gone Steve and Millie Shaold came to watch over the house to make sure everything went smoothly. I was in charge of the marketing each Saturday, which is really a job, but an enjoyable one.

This month was one where manvidifferfent things took^place . The first part of the month saw Merlyn,

did enjoy myself, except for the heat which bothered me a little, since I'm not used to it anymore. Right after the NACC I returned here to help with the WCCC in August,

During the whole month of July we had visitors from all parts of the U.S. from Virginia to California. We are always glad to have people ccxne and visit while visiting Mexico. It's a beautiful place for a
vacation; just ask th^'Beemans.

As for the children during the month, there was another group of accidents, but again nothing really serious. Terry tore some ligaments in his right wrist, which mended quickly. All the others were only the normal cuts and bruises. We also grew in July with Hermilia, age ten, giving us a total of 521
When she came, her head was shaved since she had lice, but her hair is really growing fast.
In the middle of the month the construction work started again with working on the roof to the boys'

bedrooms upstairs. Then they started on the new section of the house where the office and nursery will
be. Surely is great to see the house growing, as the family grows too.
Toward the end of the month Merlyn went to the States to bring some things back on their residency

October, 1974
Dear Friends,
Issue 10

It doesn't seem possible, but another month has passed, and so quickly. Just seems like yesterday that September ended, but as time passes so does many things here, thus showing us continually how precious and powerful is our God, and I greet you "in HiS''name this month.
f October started with MAMI returning home after surgery and everything turning out just fine. Every-

one was surely glad to have her back, especially the smaller
The early days of October saw the farm family increase with the
addition of a calf. It's a different kind of calf than usual; it's gray

and is both for milking and for beef. Also, remember my telling you about our turkey that had ducks,

well, this time she had chicks and

turkeys.

During the month I again went to Mexico City for language school, but this time was
a little different. This time I had to take

the bus to school, since on the second day

of class I was in a small accident with an

other car and a bus, I was not injured, but the car was messed up a little. However, it was quickly fixed. Surely was glad to get it back, since one car just isn't enough for our family. God was with me in this, since I wasn't hurt and also since my parents had been trying to call me for two weeks, but couldn't get through, but within

thirty minutes after I got home the call fi nally came through, and my mother heard my voice so she knew that everything was
all right.

God surely does work In unusual ways, but that is just His way of showing us that if we turn our lives over to Him, He will take care of everything for
us.

The heavens rejoiced the middle of the month with the baptism of three boys into Christ. Ramon and Jorge Luciano, children of a church member; and Jose Juan, one of ours; confessed Jesus as their Savior and became happy babes in Christ. Do pray for these new Christians that they will continue to follow
God's path for their lives. Slowly but surely, the construction continues as more of the foundation was

laid this month. Surely is great seeing the house grow even if it is a slow process, but we are hopeful that it will eventually be completely done.

Mamo Turkey

The end of the month saw the com being harvested, which I'll tell you about next month, since it was done in both of them.

To make sure that you receive my holiday greeting before the holidays, I will include it now. God bless each of you in this holiday season.

Ramon Jose Juan Jorge

God bless you all as this year comes to a close. Hope that your October was an interesting one, and if not, that you will enjoy sharing ours with us. I enjoy telling you about what happened here. God be
with you all till next time.

Well, another month has passed with many different things happening here, but we are thankful that, as usual, God was with us and helped us through the bad arid the good. It is in His name that I send you
greetings.

As I said last month, I will talk about school this month, since it has started here, like ali throughout the U. S. The beginning of school is rather interesting and different around here. Each year you must re-register showing last year's report card in order to get into school at all. Then all of the thousands of children in San Vicente are put into appropriate classes. After about a week of switching classrooms so that all our primary children (twenty-five) are in the same group for their grade, we next concentrated on the uniforms. This year I made nineteen pairs of boys pants in a week, which kept me rather busy to say the least. So now all our boys look just alike in their complete uniforms. The girls also were ready at a later time with all their supplies. Of course, as
soon as school begins so does the homework. So after

After secondary comes preparatory which is similar to high school and junior college combined, since here you study for whatever your career will be. We have three: a future doctor, a nurse, and a physical education teacher, Gonzalo has qualified for the National School of Physical Education (ENEF) and we are really proud of him.

Many other things happened during the month, both sad and happy things. Herilia ran off taking Pable and Angelica with her. After two days of searching we got the two little ones back, but she is still gone. Please do pray for her. Also, Wanda went into the hospital for surgery for a tumor which was dis covered during a check-up. More about Wanda next month. Hope that the beginning of your school term was without too many problems. God be with each of you and bless you as you continue to serve Him. I thank Him for providing me with so many friends with which to share sad and happy events with. Thanks for being there over the past year. See you all next month with more happenings at Ninos de Mexico. . ,

Dear Friends,

Issue 11

Well another month has passed with many things happenir^ around' here. Everything that happened has enabled us to glorify God for His wonderful love and the blessings which He has given us. I hope you also were thankful for His love this month and it is in His name I again say Hello.
November started as October ended with the older boys work

ing in the corn fields. This year was a little different than last year since this time we gathered the corn differently for

a different purpose. First the boys dug a silage pit, working

As in every month we have at least one birthday and November came with nine. So after awhile we de cided to combine some of the celebrations into one and do something different. So we did with the usual

ice cream and cake, but also a Bar-B-Que. For the ice cream we never have trouble getting volunteers, though they too are hams. While this was going on inside the rest was taking place outside with the Bar-B-Que. Can you imagine the size of the pit to cook meat for a family of 60? Well here is a smoky

Dear Friends,

v'

Again, I send you all greetings in the precious name of our Lord, whose birth we remember this month. God sent His only Son to save us from our sins, therefore, we should do our best to tell others about His wonderful love. As everywhere else December, was a busy month around here as well; time just
wasn't enough to do everything which needed to be accomplished.

Early in the month I celebrated a birthday, so all the children gathered outside my apartment and woke
me singing "Happy Birthday." What a way to start the dayl Later they tried to give me a birthday
bath, no luck.

Early in December the pre-schoolers made a pinata to break later. They really enjoyed making it, though it was a little messy; but I think the joy will be even greater when the time comes to

Towards the middle of the month Merlyn's folk^and Don and Vi arrived with their trailers. The kids were surely glad to see them,

since they were bringing Christmas. You wouldn't believe the amount of clothing and gifts that can fit into such trai lers. All

this was possible because you gave, and we do thank you very
much.

invade a store to do their shopping with a limited supply of/

money. Just after Christmas we again gathered up everyone and went into Mexico City to see the Christmas decorations, which had the city all lighted up. This was expecially interesting for

On the 14th we gave a bridal shower for two future brides. One was our secretary who will be married in February and the other was one of the girls who will marry in January. It was a surprise for both of them; and as so many things in Mexico, it started late, since the guests of honor were late in arriving due to traffic in Mexico City. But it was an enjoyable evening with Mexican and American touches,
and all seemed to enjoy it.

On the 21st the-fomi Iv jacfi-viUQ^ftfty="^' _S2>^wijh the addition of Julio, a fourmonth old baby whose mother didn't
want him . Already, we can see many changes in him as he grows. Just before Christmas the older boys helped roof the office section on the new construction area . Slowly things are changing, but eventuollv all will be accomplished and done.

Now for Christmas, I don't have any pictures this year, since they would be basically the same as last year's. On the 24th we had our Christmas dinner with turkey and all the trimmings, both Mexican and American. What an enjoyable meal! Then we all gathered around the tree to hear the story of Christmas and sing a few songs. Finally, bedtime arrived, and the adults put the gifts under the tree for the next day. Then around 10:00 a .m . on the 25th, we passed out the gifts, which were immediately opened and then enjoyed the rest of the day. A busytime in the week till the new year with many different things going on, then on New Year's Eve we had a watch party for the church and greeted the new year with prayers. Many moments in December were spent getting ready for two special occasions in January, so I will wait till next month to tell you about these, but I was kept fairly busy making dresses for these events.
God bless you as a New Year starts, and I pray that God will always be with you in whatever you do.
Thanks for all you have done for us during the past year. FELIZ NAVIDAD,
