Yes it is true, but you need the Word AND the Spirit, the one cannot stand on it’s own.YHVH’s Spirit will only remind you of what you have studied and it is still yourresponsibility to study and renew your mind with His Word, and in this case, with HisCommandments. Both the Spirit and the Word are required and we saw the samepattern in the Tabernacle where you would find the Showbread (Word) and the Menorah(Spirit) in the Holy Place (your relationship). [Eph_6:17].Without the Torah you will be ignorant and will not know what to repent from. This is whywe have to look into the Torah, to find out what YHVH’s standards for righteous livingare, so that our lives can come in line with it through the help of His Spirit
Where does the concept of 613 Commandments come from? The 613Mitzvot (Hebrew:
: Taryag Mitzvot, "613 commandments") arestatements and principles of law and ethics contained in the Torah or FiveBooks of Moses. These principles of Biblical law are sometimes calledcommandments (mitzvot) or collectively as the "Law of Moses" (ToratMoshe,
), "Mosaic Law", or simply "the Law" (though theseterms are ambiguous and also applied to the Torah itself).Although there have been many attempts to codify and enumerate thecommandments contained in the Torah, the traditional view is based onMaimonides' enumeration. The 613 commandments are either "positivecommandments" to perform an act (mitzvot aseh) or "negativecommandments" to abstain from certain acts (mitzvot lo taaseh). There are 365 negativecommandments, corresponding to the number of days in a solar year, and 248 positivecommandments, ascribed to the number of bones and significant organs in the humanbody. Though the number 613 is mentioned in the Talmud, its real significanceincreased in later medieval rabbinic literature, including many works listing or arrangedby the mitzvot. Another interesting fact is that they recon there are 613 seeds in apomegranate, which is quite significant. A pomegranate is a fruit and the Mitsvots orCommandments expressed through your life is also fruits by which people will see whoyou obey and follow. Y’shua said that you will be known by your fruit, do HisCommandments and bear His fruit in your life.Three categories of negative commandments fall under the category of yehareg ve'alya'avor, meaning "One should let himself be killed rather than violate it". These aremurder, idolatry, and forbidden sexual relations. Many of the mitzvot cannot be observed following the destruction of the Second Temple, though they still retain religious significance. According to one standard reckoning, thereare 77 negative and 194 positive commandments that can be observed today. There are26 commands that apply only within the Land of Israel. Furthermore, there are sometime-based commandments from which women are exempt. Some depend on thespecial status of a person in Judaism (such as kohenim or priesthood), while othersapply only to men and others only to women.
