Proposed CATLA Dues Increase
Oct. 2008CATLA members will asked to discuss and vote on a 3 year increase ininstitutional CATLA dues at the upcoming CATLA conference. The details of this planwere drafted by the 2011 ATLA Local Host Committee.
Reason for the increase
CATLA is co-sponsoring with ACTS (Association of Chicago TheologicalSchools) the 2011 ATLA annual conference. As the sponsors CATLA/ACTS will needto raise at least $10,000 to cover the cost of the opening reception and the tote bags. We’ve been told that $10,000 is a conservative estimate of these costs and that if possiblewe should try to exceed that amount. Thus the 2011 Local Host Committee is proposing the following plan to raise therequired money over the next 3 years (2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11).
Planned increase
There are currently 34 institutions that pay annual membership dues to CATLA.These include all 10 of the ACTS libraries. We propose that starting with the currentyear, CATLA dues be adjusted as follows: Non-ACTS institutions would be assessed $150/yr dues divided $50 for CATLA and $100 for ATLA ConferenceACTS libraries would be assessed $250/yr dues divided $50 for CATLA and$200 for ATLA ConferenceInstitutions will be sent a dues form reflecting the appropriate amount for their school. A second cover letter will be enclosed with the dues form explaining the increasean offering institutions that simply can’t pay the higher amount an opportunity to requesta new renewal form at the current $50/year rate. Thus with 100% participation over 3 years we would collect:$2,400/yr from 24 non-ACTS CATLA institutional members$2,000/yr from 10 ACTS libraries$4,400/yr total or $13,200 over 3 years.Money raised for the ATLA conference will be placed in an interest bearing CD by the CATLA treasurer.
