We (only) have three returning starters (Pat Richard, yler Wahl, and Pat Sharkey). We had a lot o new aces outthere, and you could tell. We just didn’t quite have our timing onoense, and we got a little out o sync on deense.”La Salle took the opening kicko and marched 66 yards insix plays, with 195 pound running back ony Cacchiotti goingin rom the 10 as the Lightning took a 6-0 lead with 8:41 let inthe frst. Te Irish answered with a ommy Gregg run or 10 yards, aMichael Mathews 11-yard catch and a Pat Richard-to-Greggpass or 18 yards that highlighted the drive.Following a Richard keeper on third-and-three rom theLightning 14, the Irish had a frst-and-goal at the La Salle 7.Richard, out o the shotgun, took o on the next Irish snap, but Cacchiotti ripped the ball loose, and Josh Bartlett ell on theumble at his own 5 to turn away the Irish threat.Cacchiotti then ripped o a 19-yard run to start theLightning on a 95-yard, 15-play, seven-and-a-hal-minute drivethat Kerry Duy culminated with a 9-yard burst to paydirt. TeLightning added Cacchiotti’s run or the two-point conversionand led 14-0 with 9:56 let in the hal.“Tey like to pound it,” Graham said. “Tey’re disciplined, execute well and play hard. Tey earned the win.”An interception by Dylan Sattler on the Lightning 30 endedthe second Irish possession o the game. Following a Lightningpunt, a holding penalty derailed the third Irish possession even with a 10-yard screen pass rom Richard to Kyle Lindgren.Duy scored his second D on the ensuing La Sallepossession with a 19-yard run, and La Salle led 20-0 with 1:30let in the hal. Te Lightning deense orced a three-and-out, and La Salle

was knocking on the door at the Irish 5 with only ticks let inthe hal. Ben Konen ended the threat by breaking through tosack Lightning quarterback Mike McGree back at the Irish 11as the hal ran out.“Teir oense pretty much kept us o the feld and out o any (oensive) rhythm,” Graham said o the Lightning’s 17-plusminutes o frst-hal possession. “(On deense), we got them inthird-and-long, but we couldn’t stop them.” Te Lightning and Irish battled to a scoreless standstill inthe second hal.“We made some adjustments deensively and held themscoreless in the second hal,” Graham said. “Our deensive lineand linebackers came out (in the second hal) and were morephysical, which was the reason we were able to keep them out o the end zone.”On oense, Lindgren ran or 60 o his game-high 77 rushing yards in the second hal. Te Irish oense, spearheaded by therunning o Richard and Lindgren out o the shotgun, marchedto the La Salle 13 to open the ourth. Joe Sullivan picked o an Irish pass in the end zone to turnthat DeSales threat away.In the closing seconds, DeSales again knocked on the doorby marching to the Lightning 18. With one second let, Richardhit Gregg, but the Lightning deense ran him out o bounds atthe 10, and La Salle preserved the shutout.“In the second hal, we got into a rhythm and established therunning game,” Graham said. “We were able to do some things. We’ve just got to fnish.”
