A Call to Prayer
Dear Prayer Partners,Thank you for your willingness to labor at this most important task. The headline said, “Nearly 1 in 4People Worldwide is Muslim”.A sub-title asked the question, “Where Have All the Christians Gone?” (
Bruce Feiler - FOX-News.com - September
25, 2009)This article reported:“A shocking new study of Americans’ religious beliefs shows the beginnings of a major realign-ment in Americans’ relationship with God. The American Religious Identification Survey(ARIS) reveals that Protestants now represent half of all Americans, down almost 20 percent inthe last twenty years. In the coming months, America will become a minority Protestant nationfor the first time since the pilgrims.”It is not news to most of us that the influence of Christ and the church in American is declining. Howwe respond to that realization says a lot about who we understand ourselves to be. If we see ourselves asvictims of our circumstances, then we will be constantly looking for someone to blame and some reasonto complain. But if we see ourselves as servants of the King, we will respond differently. John describes who we arethis way in Revelation 1:4-6.“Grace and peace to you from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from theseven spirits before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstbornfrom the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, and has made us to be akingdom and priests to serve His God and Father — to Him be glory and power forever andever! Amen.” NIVFriends, we are a kingdom and priests who serves the One who is the “Ruler of the kings of the earth.”Our place is not one of cowardly complacence, but of active service. However, our active service will never win the battle if we depend on our efforts alone. RememberLuke 5 and Peter fishing all night and catching nothing. That is the result of our best efforts without thedirection and blessing of the Lord. But when Jesus appears, when Jesus instructs and empowers, ANDwe obey, the boats cannot contain the catch.Friends, the need is great. The condition is desperate. We can join the long line of complainers whowant to tell you from the sidelines why things are not as they should be. Or we can enter the fray, givingour all for the things that really matter. This Prayer Guide is a tool designed to give some small help to those who are willing to pray. The in-tent is not to be a coffee table directory of the churches of HOK. The intent is that this would be aweapon that would be used in the spiritual battle for the glory of our King across this association of churches called Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association. This Prayer Guide goes out with the desire that it will be used of God to guide us all into more ferventand diligent prayer for the work of the Kingdom and the King.

Introduction to the Prayer Guide
Our mission as Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association of Churches is to create a climate of trustand cooperation among the pastors and churches so that we share life together in partnership as we makedisciples for the glory of God.The first strategy for us in accomplishing this mission is prayer. If we don’t have the help and blessingof the Lord, we will never be effective in this spiritual endeavor. This Prayer Guide is a tool to help usin our effectiveness. You will find in this to be a guide to prayer in multiple ways.First, you will find a guide to the churches and Good Neighbor Centers of Heart of Kansas. Ourchurches and pastors are listed with places for you to write specific requests for each church. As you aremade aware of updated requests, or of answered prayers, there is a place for you to keep a prayer jour-nal. You will also notice a page that highlights the work we have partnered with in Winnipeg, Mani-toba, Canada. You can make this prayer guide a tool that you use every day. By keeping it with your Bible and otherdevotional materials, as you spend time with the Lord every day, you will have a prayer journal.Secondly, this Prayer Guide will give guidance in updating prayer needs. At the web address, located atthe bottom of each page, you will be able to get up to date requests and information on previous re-quests. The intent is that these requests will focus primarily on spiritual needs. It is easy for us to focusmuch of our attention on praying for the physical and health issues of our friends and loved ones. Whilethere is nothing wrong with praying for such matters, the intent of this prayer guide is to focus on spiri-tual needs in the lives of people, of churches and of ministries. This Prayer Guide will also offer guidance in the way that you might pray for pastors and for churches. An effort has been made to point out some specific passages of Scripture which illustrate how we canpray for our own spiritual well being, as well as that of our ministry leaders, and of our churches. Youwill find these guides scattered throughout the book.
