Venous Disease is a Progressive

The vein treatment I received was great. I am very happy with
the procedures done on my legs. I wish I had done this earlier.

Non-functioning
valves within a
blood vessel
cause varicose
veins. Veins return blood back
to the heart, but when a valve
does not function properly,
it causes blood to flow
backwards into the vein.
This is called venous
insufficiency and this
backward flow causes vein
enlargement. Spider veins can
develop for the same reason,
but are further influenced by
obesity, heredity, pregnancy
and menopause.
Signs of Vein Problems
The symptoms are similar for
varicose and spider veins, but
are typically more severe for
varicose veins. Spider veins
may cause minor burning or
itching at the site. Varicose
vein symptoms include leg
aches or cramps, a feeling of
leg heaviness, burning,
throbbing or tingling. Skin
ulcers, especially in the ankle
area, are not uncommon
when varicose veins are
particularly severe.
When you have these
weakened and damaged veins
in your legs, there are some
serious health complications
that can develop if you ignore
the situation. You could end
up with premature bruising;
swollen legs; skin damage;
wounds that take a long time
to heal, and even skin ulcers.
All of these things can cause
you to experience a great deal
of pain and general unease in
your legs. They can make it
difficult to go about your
daily lives.
At the new ACP Vein
Treatment Center in Wayne,
our staff is dedicated entirely
to the diagnosis and
treatment of vein disorders.
We treat venous diseases with
painless, minimally invasive
vascular therapies.

How can I better communicate my idea or business to consumers through advertising

This question is
asked over and
over again by
business people all around our great country. In order to best answer it we need to establish a solid definition of what advertising truly is; Advertising is
generally intended to mean a paid form of message
disseminated by businesses (through such media as television, radio, newspapers, posters, mailings and the internet) specifically and systematically designed to influence the attitudes and decisions of individuals in relation to their consumption of goods and their use of services. If that is true then
what is placed in those advertisements is critical to the success of the campaign. Lets use print advertising as an example. The
advertisement should reflect the customers business and tell their story to the public. Readers who are not familiar with the advertisers business will form an image of them based on the look and
content of their ads. Each ad is essentially another location for the customers business. An ad is a sales call in print. You want the reader to know the unique value your
customer offers to the
consumer. Like all sales presentations, you must communicate your message
clearly and effectively.
Like a sales call, an ad must be carefully planned and properly structured.
Dont make the mistake of filling every nook and cranny of the space, but rather fill it with an effective message... even if that message if only one word or image!

ccording to my
Mom, not necessari-
ly. Now retired
from being a microbiologist
for over twenty-five years,
she has no pension since she
was a non-union employee in
a hospital lab and insisted I
attend and graduate from a 4
year college to get a good job
with benefits. Growing up in
my house, a career without a
college degree requirement
was never an option. It was
not if you go to college,
but, which college are you
going to. Both of my parents
were college graduates and
not to be a college graduate
myself was perceived to be an
insult to them and a failure
placed upon me. Of course,
my parents were financially
ill-prepared to send me and
my 3 siblings to any institu-
tion of higher learning, in-
fact they never brought me
to preview any university or
college. It was just assumed
that I would attend and
somehow it would be paid
for. Well, I did attend col-
lege and it was paid for by my
working to pay for it and a
few student loans to attend
William Paterson College,
now University. My Mom
compares herself to her
retired peer group now, those
with pensions and Social
Security to her Social
Security alone. She was
forced to admit that she
never saved enough for
retirement and would have
benefited if there were a pen-
sion to back her up instead of
having to depend on her
youngest daughter for assis-
tance. Maybe, she says, I
should have motivated you
to be a union electrician,
plumber or carpenter, since
you were good working with
your hands. Now I under-
stand what retirement plan-
ning is all about and I made
many mistakes.
In my words and as a
financial advisor specializing
in retirement and estate
planning, everyone in
retirement is exactly where
they financially planned to
be! My mom had no finan-
cial plan and it didnt matter
that she graduated college at
age 18. It didnt matter that
my father was a graduate of a
chiropractic college, if you
have no retirement plan your
retirement will end up exact-
ly as you planned for it to be.
No plan equals no retire-
ment. A poorly funded
retirement plan equates to a
poor retirement lifestyle and
conversely, a well-funded
retirement plan usually leads
to a robust fun filled stress-
free retirement lifestyle.
Yes, I know that it is
expensive to live today and
sacrificing to live below ones
means is grossly difficult, but,
take it from someone who is
entrenched in the financials
of current retirees. Without
exception, all of them, if
they could turn back the
hands of time, would live on
a little less to commit to
their future a little more! An
extra $100 a month devoted
to an IRA or a non-qualified
deferred compensation pro-
gram would have grown too
many thousands of dollars in
annual retirement income
today, when they need it
most! And with life
expectancy increasing, peo-
ple will have a much greater
chance of outliving their
money, turning to their kids
or the government for assis-
tance. Imagine the possibili-
ty of asking your kids for
financial assistance because
you failed to plan properly
and your fear of poverty
becomes a reality! This is
before concerning yourself
with any cognitive or long-
term care issues, which statis-
tically are likely to occur the
longer we live.
We are born into a life
of responsibility and expense
and those who understand
and accept that planning for
their financial future needs,
first and foremost, will reap
the greatest rewards and ben-
efits for themselves and fami-
lies without exception! I
have dedicated my life to this
belief which is reinforced
each and every day I meet
with new prospects and
clients to study their finan-
cial planning activities, or
lack of, during their working
years. Even with little edu-
cation in the financial plan-
ning arena, a good saver in a
bad program accumulates a
greater sum than a bad saver
in a superior investment pro-
gram.
Everyone knows that
IRA is an abbreviation for
Individual Retirement
Account. However, maybe it
should be an acronym for
Individual Retirement
Assessment instead? When
did you last have yours ana-
lyzed by a specialist? Perhaps
now would be a good time to
receive a no cost, fee or obli-
gation check review and
check-up to see how well you
are doing and what modifica-
tions may be necessary?
Retirement plan funding is
just like the law of gravity,
one need not jump off the
edge of a building to know
that you will not fly. Your
last working paycheck must
not be your last paycheck, far
from it. At this point that
your retirement portfolio
takes over with all of the dili-
gence and discipline you
gave it throughout your fund-
ing period. Now, if struc-
tured properly, it will replace
your working paycheck each
and every month for as long
as you and your spouse shall
live and if structured
extremely properly, the pay-
check will increase with
inflation and positive market
performance for the rest of
your life! If your current
plan cannot or does not do
this, I should be expecting
your call to schedule an
appointment with me so you
may learn how to position
your portfolio to accomplish
these necessary and essential
benefits.

ere are some ways to
help you prevent
tooth erosion:
1. Cut down on your con-
sumption of carbonated bev-
erages, sports and energy
drinks, and pure fruit juice.
2. Drink acidic drinks quickly
and with a straw. This helps
prevent acid from coming in
contact with your teeth. Also,
dont swish these liquids
around or hold them in your
mouth for a long time.
3. After having acidic drinks,
rinse your mouth with water
to neutralize the acids and
wait at least one hour before
brushing your teeth.
4. Chew sugar-free gum,
which helps your mouth pro-
duce more saliva to remineral-
ize your teeth.
5. Brush with a soft tooth-
brush and be sure your tooth-
paste contains the ADA seal
for fluoride content.
6. Dont let your child con-
sume highly acidic drinks or
fruit juices in his or sippy cup
or bottle.
You can reduce sensitivi-
ty by using specially formulat-
ed toothpaste or over-the-
counter enamel-building
products. However, always be
sure to check with your den-
tist before you try new prod-
ucts.

O
ne of the best ways to
prevent or control
cardiovascular dis-
ease is by adhering to a
healthy diet. Eating a diet rich
in fruits, veggies, lean protein,
and fiberand, of course, low
in greasy fast foodcan con-
siderably reduce the risk of
heart disease. Here are 6
heart-healthy eating tips for
seniors:
1. Buy colorful fruits and veg-
etables: Adults should get at
least 5 servings per day of
fruits and vegetables. Make
sure you buy a variety of col-
ored fruits and vegetables to
ensure you get the rainbow of
benefits each color has to
offer.
2. Limit high-fat dairy or
meat: Buy skinless cuts of lean
meat with the least amount of
visible fat. Cuts that say loin
after them, like sirloin and
tenderloin, are often leaner
cuts. Fatty fish like salmon or
trout can also help increase
the bodys level of healthy
omega-3s.
3. Eat plenty of nuts and high
fiber foods: Fiber can help
lower blood cholesterol, and it
keeps you full, which helps
you maintain a healthy
weight. You can find fiber in
fruits, veggies, beans, and
whole-grain breads and cere-
als, as well as in nuts.
4. Dont buy butter: Avoiding
butter can help lower choles-
terol. Consider replacing but-
ter with a more healthful
spread like Smart Balance,
Benechol, or Promise, which
contain plant sterols that may
help lower bad cholesterol.
5. Read nutrition labels:
Studies show that people who
read nutrition labels tend to
be slimmer than those who
dont. Its easy for salt and
sugar to sneak in to your diet,
especially with prepared
foods, so be sure to always read
the nutrition label.
6. Frozen or canned fruits and
veggies are okay: Remember
that frozen fruits and vegeta-
bles have the same vitamins
and minerals in them. This
knowledge makes keeping the
kitchen stocked with choles-
terol and blood pressure low-
ering foods a little easier.
Choose unsalted or unsweet-
ened varieties when possible.

A
different sort of tax
return deadline is fast
approaching. Non-
profit groups claiming tax-
exempt status have until May
15, 2014 to file returns for the
2013 tax year. Here are the
answers to several common
questions on this issue.
Q. Does every organization
have to file a return?
A. No. There are certain excep-
tions in the law. For example, the
following nonprofits are exempt
from the filing requirements:
Most religious organiza-
tions, religious schools and mis-
sionary organizations.
Subsidiaries of nonprofits
that may be covered under a
group return filed by the parent
organization.
Certain government corpo-
rations and state institutions pro-
viding essential services.
Q. What form do you have to
file?
A. It depends on the size and
nature of the organization.
Nonprofits with gross receipts of
more than $50,000 must file
Form 990 or 990-EZ. Those
nonprofits with gross receipts
that dont exceed $50,000 file
Form 990-N (the e-
Postcard). Additionally, pri-
vate foundations file Form 990-
PF.
Q. What happens if you fail
to file?
A. It could result in monetary
penalties. Even worse, if an
organization fails to file Form
990 three years in a row, the
IRS will automatically revoke its
tax-exempt status and it can no
longer receive tax-deductible
contributions. Theres no appeal
process for this harsh result.
Q. Are there any other
potential taxes?
A. Yes. Significantly, a tax-
exempt organization may owe an
unrelated business income tax
(UBIT) for regular business
activities unrelated to its charitable
function. For example, if a non-
profit charges advertising in its
publications, the income may be
subject to UBIT.

he role women play
in society and within
their own households
has changed dramatically
over the last half-century.
According to Pew Research
Center analysis of the
Decennial Census and
American Community Sur-
veys Integrated Public Use
Micro data Sample files, in
1960 just 10.8 percent of
married mothers were the
primary earners in house-
holds that included children
under the age of 18. That fig-
ure rose steadily over the
next 50 years, reaching 40.4
percent by 2011. Though the
steady rise in those percent-
ages makes the 2011 figure
less than surprising, the fact
remains that todays working
mothers have more on their
plate than ever before and
are under more pressure to
juggle those responsibilities
than their predecessors.
Juggling a career and
motherhood is difficult for
any woman, but the transi-
tion to wearing two hats can
prove an especially difficult
adjustment for new mothers.
The following are a handful
of tips for new mothers about
to embark on the challenging
task of juggling a career and a
growing family.
Carefully consider career
decisions. Some new mothers
respond to motherhood by
making changes with regard
to their careers. While
adjustments will almost cer-
tainly need to be made, its
important that women avoid
knee-jerk reactions. Some
women feel guilty about not
spending enough time with
their children and ultimately
allow that guilt to govern
their decisions about their
careers. But women who
dont give ample considera-
tion to such decisions may
grow to regret them when

Juggling a career and new motherhood

they find they miss their old
jobs and the responsibilities
and sense of purpose that
comes with those jobs. When
making career decisions
as new motherhood is
approaching or after it
arrives, make a list of the
pros and cons to each deci-
sion and the motives behind
each decision you might
make. The more thoughtfully
you approach each decision,
the happier youre likely to
be with that decision once
its been made.
Avoid going overboard at
the office. Working mothers
are often driven to show
their employers that new
motherhood will not affect
their on-the-job perform-
ance. In their haste to prove
motherhood wont prove a
distraction, new mothers
may take on more they can
chew. Recognize that being a
working mother does require
an adjustment period, espe-
cially in the immediate
weeks and months after
maternity leave has ended
and your body has yet to
adjust to its new schedule.
Accept help when its offered
and recognize that good
employers understand the
adjustments you will need to
make in the immediate after-
math of a pregnancy.
Look for ways to reduce
your workload at home.
Juggling a career and new
motherhood wont just have
an impact at the office. Part
of making a successful transi-
tion from working profes-
sional to working mother is
recognizing that adjustments
need to be made at home as
well. Both new parents are in
the same boat, but mothers
are the ones who spend the
first three months at home
with their new child, and
during those three months
new mothers typically devel-
op a certain rapport with
their new babies that new
fathers do not. Babies may
prove more comfortable
being fed or rocked to sleep
by mom instead of dad. In
such instances, look for ways
to reduce your workload at
home, whether thats sharing
cooking duties or other
chores around the house that
were once your responsibility
alone.

T
heres another great
debate about the
feline as a pet besides
the declawing issue. This great
debate concerns allowing the
feline to roam outdoors versus
living indoors. Should you
allow your cat to roam out-
doors? Lets find out.
Outdoor Felines
Cats are essentially wild
creatures, and they have
always loved the outdoors.
What feline owner hasnt
watched his cat loll in a patch
of sunshine on a winter day, or
roll contentedly in the dirt in
its own backyard? Cats do
love the sunshine, the out-
doors, and the fresh air.
However, outdoor cats are sus-
ceptible to more diseases,
more injuries, and more
health problems.
Outdoor cats may tussle
with other cats, catch para-
sites or other diseases, or be
hit by a car or caught by other
predators. They can also be
poisoned by pesticides,
antifreeze left unattended or
other toxins. They can cause
problems with neighbors by using their yards as a cat box.
Outdoor cats simply arent as
safe as indoor cats.
Indoor Felines
Indoor cats live longer,
healthier lives. Studies prove
it and common sense dictates
it. Indoor cats have many
advantages outdoor cats cant
hope to have. Outdoor cats
live on an average of 3 to 5
years, while indoor cats live
an average of 12 years or
more. My last indoor cats
lived to be 19 and nearly 21.
Indoor cats enjoy safety
and comfort. They are safe
from diseases that feral cats
may carry and outdoor cats
pick up. They are safe from cat
fights, cars, and predators.
And, indoor cats wont harm
other wildlife, such as birds
and small animals.
Alternatives
There are many alterna-
tives to the outdoor lifestyle.
When kittens first come
home, they should be
kept indoors. If your
cats miss their out-
door excursions, you
might try to train
them to wear a har-
ness and walk on a
leash. They will still
be able to enjoy the
outdoors, but much
more safely.
Another alternative is to
create a safe outdoor area or
run where the cats can go out-
side but cannot escape the
area. There are many outdoor
runs available now that con-
nect to a cat door and allow
the cat access to a run on a
patio or in a backyard.
You can also allow the
cat outdoors on a patio or
deck when you are outdoors,
and only for a short time. Or,
you can use a carrier to take
your kitty for walks in the sun-
shine.
Keeping kitty indoors
will keep it healthy, happy,
and free of infectious diseases
it might catch outside. Each
pet owner is responsible for
his own pets health and well-
being. Keeping kitty inside is
the choice that makes sense.

For Zlotkowski and

that are free of mercury and
BPA, a controversial chemical
that can effect hormone lev-

Digital X-rays also allow

was named a New
Jersey School District of
Character by the New Jersey
Alliance for Social, Emotional
and Character in a ceremony
held at Rider University in
Lawrenceville, NJ. Eastern
Christian was one of ten
schools in New Jersey and
only 48 schools nationwide to
be recognized as a school of
character in the program
which is affiliated with
the Character Education
Partnerships National School
of Character Program.
Eastern Christian also learned
that it has been named a final-
ist in the 2014 National
School of Character Program.
Eastern Christian, a pre-
K through 12 school, with
campuses in Midland Park,
North Haledon, and Wyckoff,
has built its award-winning
character education program
around a framework of six core
values and a program of inten-
tional community service
beginning in kindergarten and
continuing through high
school. According to Eastern
Christians Head of School,
Tom Dykhouse, Character
education is a natural out-
growth of the teaching that
takes place in our classrooms
each day.
Eastern Christians ex-
tensive service learning pro-
gram is centered on student
action on issues of global
concern, including hunger,
homelessness, illiteracy, dis-
ability concerns, and human
trafficking. Each year stu-
dents partner with national
and international organiza-
tions such as St. Jude
Childrens Hospital and
Habitat for Humanity and
local organizations such as
the New Hope Food Pantry
in Prospect Park and the Star
of Hope Mission in Paterson
to learn about these global
concerns and to take con-
crete actions in response to
their learning.
Eastern Christian School
Association was founded in
1892 and serves 715 students
from communities throughout
northern New Jersey and
southern New York. Students
come from over 40 communi-
ties and 140 different
Christian churches. The stu-
dent body represents a rich
tapestry of ethnic back-
grounds including African
American (4%), Asian
(15%), and Hispanic-Latino
(6%). Over 95% of its high
school graduates attend
schools of higher learning and
in the aggregate receive over
$3.5 Million in scholarships
and grants each year.

How can I better communicate my idea or
business to consumers through advertising
Not Just an Average Joe has lead to f inding excellent ways for me to educate

This question is
asked over and
over again by
business people
all around our great country.
In order to best answer it we
need to establish a solid
definition of what advertising
truly is; Advertising is
generally intended to mean a
paid form of message
disseminated by businesses
(through such media as
television, radio, newspapers,
posters, mailings and the
internet) specifically and
systematically designed to
influence the attitudes and
decisions of individuals in
relation to their consumption
of goods and their use of
services. If that is true then
what is placed in those
advertisements is critical to
the success of the campaign.
Lets use print advertising
as an example. The
advertisement should reflect
the customers business and
tell their story to the public.
Readers who are not familiar
with the advertisers business
will form an image of them
based on the look and
content of their ads. Each ad
is essentially another location
for the customers business.
An ad is a sales call in print.
You want the reader to know
the unique value your
customer offers to the
consumer. Like all sales
presentations, you must
communicate your message
clearly and effectively.
Like a sales call, an ad must
be carefully planned and
properly structured.
Dont make the mistake of
filling every nook and cranny
of the space, but rather fill it
with an effective message...
even if that message if only
one word or image!

Venous Disease is a Progressive

The vein treatment I received was great. I am very happy with
the procedures done on my legs. I wish I had done this earlier.

Non-functioning
valves within a
blood vessel
cause varicose
veins. Veins return blood back
to the heart, but when a valve
does not function properly,
it causes blood to flow
backwards into the vein.
This is called venous
insufficiency and this
backward flow causes vein
enlargement. Spider veins can
develop for the same reason,
but are further influenced by
obesity, heredity, pregnancy
and menopause.
Signs of Vein Problems
The symptoms are similar for
varicose and spider veins, but
are typically more severe for
varicose veins. Spider veins
may cause minor burning or
itching at the site. Varicose
vein symptoms include leg
aches or cramps, a feeling of
leg heaviness, burning,
throbbing or tingling. Skin
ulcers, especially in the ankle
area, are not uncommon
when varicose veins are
particularly severe.
When you have these
weakened and damaged veins
in your legs, there are some
serious health complications
that can develop if you ignore
the situation. You could end
up with premature bruising;
swollen legs; skin damage;
wounds that take a long time
to heal, and even skin ulcers.
All of these things can cause
you to experience a great deal
of pain and general unease in
your legs. They can make it
difficult to go about your
daily lives.
At the new ACP Vein
Treatment Center in Wayne,
our staff is dedicated entirely
to thediagnosis and
treatment of vein disorders.
We treat venous diseases with
painless, minimally invasive
vascular therapies.

P
reparing this
mouthwatering
chocolate cake
takes only 30 minutes;
you can make it up to
two days ahead.
Ingredients
Nonstick cooking spray
14 ounces semisweet
chocolate (do not use
chips)
2 containers (15
ounces each) part-skim
ricotta cheese, room
temperature
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 package (9 ounces)
chocolate wafers (about
44 cookies)
Directions
Prepare pan: Remove
sides from a 9-inch round
spring-form pan. Place a sheet
of waxed paper over bottom,
leaving an overhang; lock
sides onto bottom, firmly
securing paper. Spray inside of
pan with cooking spray; line
sides with a strip of waxed
paper 28 inches long and 4
inches wide.
Make chocolate-ricotta
mixture: Break 12 ounces of
chocolate into pieces. Place in
a heatproof medium bowl set
over, not in, a pan of simmer-
ing water. Cook, stirring occa-
sionally, until chocolate has
melted, 8 to 10 minutes.
In a food processor, blend
ricotta until very smooth,
about 1 minute, scraping
down sides of bowl. Add warm
chocolate; blend until
smooth. In a large bowl, beat
cream until stiff peaks form.
With a rubber spatula, gently
fold in chocolate-ricotta mix-
ture.
Assemble cake: Arrange
half the cookies in an overlap-
ping pattern to cover bottom
of pan. Spoon half the choco-
late-ricotta mixture on top of
cookies; smooth top. Cover
with remaining cookies;
top with remaining
chocol at e- r i cot t a
mixture, and smooth
top. Cover with plas-
tic wrap; refrigerate at
least 6 hours and up
to 2 days.
Before serving, re-
lease sides of pan and
remove waxed paper
from sides. Using
bottom piece of
waxed paper, pull
cake onto a platter;
with a metal spatula,
lift cake and remove
waxed paper. Using
a vegetable peeler,
shave remaining 2
ounces chocolate
over top of cake. With a
knife dipped in hot water, cut
cake into 10 slices (wipe off
knife, and dip in hot water
after each slice).

B
uying or selling real
estate is rarely free of
complications. Unfore-
seen issues often arise during
real estate transactions, and in
such instances a real estate
attorney can prove invaluable.
While buyers, sellers or veter-
an real estate investors might
be able to handle minor or
routine issues on their own or
with the help of their realtor,
more complex matters are best
left in the hands of a real
estate attorney.
One of the benefits to
hiring a real estate attorney
when negotiating a complex
or potentially complex real
estate transaction is the
expertise that lawyers can
bring to the table. Realtors
may have vast experience
buying and selling homes, and
many are adept at negotiating
as well. But realtors are not
licensed to practice law, and
even the savviest realtor
would admit that offering
legal advice is not his or her
forte. Men and women
involved in complex or poten-
tially complex real estate
transactions would be wise to
hire a real estate attorney, and
the following are a few things
to consider before hiring
someone to represent you.
Experience
One of the reasons to
hire a real estate attorney is to
make use of their experience.
Hurdles have a tendency to
spring up during complicated
real estate transactions. Men
and women involving them-
selves in development deals or
buying rental properties likely
wont see potential red flags as
clearly as a veteran real estate
attorney will. When inter-
viewing a real estate attorney,
ask how long he has been
working as a real estate lawyer
and how long he has been
practicing in your particular
state and city. Zoning laws
and other restrictions vary
from state to state and city to
city, so look for a lawyer who
has considerable experience
in your state and city or the
state and city where the trans-
action is taking place.
Plan of action
When interviewing pro-
spective attorneys, dont
assume each one knows the
best way to approach your par-
ticular case. Provide the
details of your transaction and
then ask each attorney to
explain how they would
approach the case. A veteran
real estate attorney should be
able to provide a detailed
account of how he plans to
represent you, including what
needs to be done to get the
transaction off the ground,
any potential hurdles that
might need to be cleared and
how to clear those should they
arise. Avoid attorneys who

ave Meyer, a 43 year
old husband and
father of five daugh-
ters suffered a dry stroke while
in Aruba on business with his
wife Nancy. In Aruba he was
treated for dehydration and
food poisoning and then
released. Back at the hotel his
condition worsened. His blood
pressure elevated and his heart
rate was dangerously low. The
next day he returned to the
hospital in unbearable pain, he
was unable to walk or even lift
his head. After an MRI and
CT scan were done, a neuro-
surgeon arrived. Nancy was
told he had swelling on his
brain and needed a shunt to
survive. Dave was airlifted to
the nearest trauma center in
Florida.
Once there, he was in
ICU and developed pneumo-
nia. He was put on a respirator
for ten days. A pace maker was
put in because his heart rate
had dropped too low and
paused too long.
Dave is now back in New
Jersey at St. Josephs in Wayne
where he will face months of
acute therapy as he continues
to improve. Thankfully Dave
was able to celebrate Easter
with Nancy and their girls
(shown in picture).
God has been so gracious
to Dave and his family. They
face a long road to recovery
and an increasing financial
burden. During this time dona-
tions are being collected for
the Meyer family while Dave is
recovering, until he can again
provide for his family. Please
continue to pray for Dave and
his family. The Meyers would
like to thank everyone for the
outpouring of love and support
they have received.

expenses or to help with

give general or ambiguous
answers, as such answers may
be poor attempts by the
lawyer to mask his or her inex-
perience with transactions
such as yours. Some attorneys
may request time to develop a
plan of action, and you should
not immediately remove them
from consideration, especially
if they ultimately answer the
question in thoughtful detail.
Billing
Attorneys are expensive,
so its best to discuss the
billing process before hiring
someone to represent you.
Attorneys tend to bill by the
hour, but their rates may be
negotiable depending on the
service theyre providing.
Those who will be overseeing
your real estate transaction
and continuously representing
you will likely bill by the hour,
but if youre hiring a real
estate attorney to examine a
potential agreement or draft a
contract then you can proba-
bly negotiate a flat fee for
those services. But be sure to
discuss billing before hiring an
attorney. Real estate transac-
tions are rarely inexpensive,
so you dont want to be blind-
sided down the road when
your legal bills come due.
Representation
When interviewing an
attorney, many people assume
the attorney they initially
interviewed will be the person
who represents them through-
out the transaction. However,
the day-to-day work on your
case may be assigned to a jun-
ior associate or even someone
who isnt licensed to practice
law, such as a paralegal or a
current law school student
who is interning with the
firm. These people might be
perfectly capable of handling
your transaction, but you
should meet them before hir-
ing the firm to represent you.
A good rapport with the per-
son who will be working on
your case can ease the stress
associated with complex real
estate transactions.
Real estate attorneys can
help men and women navi-
gate the sometimes turbulent
waters of real estate transac-
tions, and it helps to consider
a host of factors before hiring
a firm to represent you.
