October 30, 2009Dear Classmate,How incredible to know we have been out of College for over 45 years; andperhaps more incredible to see the changes that have taken place at Washington Collegeduring that time!Living, as I do, within a few hours’ drive of the College, I try to make the trip atleast once a year, and most recently visited the campus a couple of weeks ago. I alwaysmarvel at not only the physical facilities’ changes, but the incredible exposure andexperiences that students are now given. If you haven’t visited recently, it is well worththe trip.Hodson Hall, to be reopened in a couple of weeks, is no longer a cafeteriaserving “mystery meat” and “train wreck”, but a beautiful venue with a great variety of food choices. And after you eat, lots of areas to “hang out”, study, or participate innumerous activities to your liking.The Gibson Center for the Arts (which didn’t exist in our generation), hasrecently had a major renovation, with significant expansion of the performing artsprogram and housing the Kohl Gallery, which promises to be an outstanding center forexhibitions.Of major importance, as many of you probably already know, a search has begunfor a new President to be the successor to President Tipson. The committee, reportedly,has had much interest expressed in the Presidency, and is on track to concluding theirevaluation and decision in the coming months.When you attend your next reunion, you will notice some much neededimprovements in the Alumni House, which you might recall was where the NeumannClub met in the 60’s.Enrollment for Fall 2009 was 1314 undergraduates, including 378 first yearstudents and 58 graduate students. As I recall this is more than double the Class of “64”and a graduate program didn’t exist.
