I hope you’re all getting as excited as we are that theCopenhagen climate talks are fast approaching and that a real momentum is starting to build about needing a fair deal at them fromacross the country. The Wave, The Wave, The Wave!
We've got a little over a month left until Copenhagen,and there's still so much that you can do to help to ensurewe get a fair and safe climate deal:The Wave

Woman make up the majority of people living in poverty; 70% of people that live onless than a dollar a day are women, women work two-thirds of the world's working hours yet only receive 10% of the world's income and own only 1% of the world's property. Women are also the most vunerable to climate changebecause of their responsibilities within the household. For example In Kenya, fetching water for the family may useup to 85% of a woman’s daily energy intake and can take up to eight hours a day in times of drought. Come along tothis session and find out why this is, how women around the world are working together to overcome poverty, andhow you can help them.

Manchester Climate Conferencemakes waves
On October 17
th
over 150 people from across the NorthWest gathered in New Century Hall in Manchester forthe Climate Action Now conference. With Copenhagen fastapproaching we thought it was time to join forces across theregion and discuss both why and how we can take action onclimate change, locally and globally.Highlights included; an excellent, no-nonsense scientific talkfrom Kevin Anderson of the Tyndall Centre, a Q &A session with George Marshall (COIN) who highlighted wayswe can communicate climate change. Elvis Sukali (OxfamMalawi) talked about his first hand experiences of climatechange, then Lucy Pearce (Stop Climate Chaos) got us allexcited about The Wave in London on the 5
th
December andhow we could make it bigger and bluer.Why not look at a fewhighlights from the day …

Oxfam’s Active Global CitizenshipConference

saw Oxfam hosting its first Active GlobalCitizenship conference for over 100 young people fromacross the North West.Highlights of the day included a visit from a life-sizedpolar bear reminding us of the need to save humans too,students getting their faces painted blue, and the chanceto question Rebecca Gowland, head of Oxfam’s ‘Hereand Now’ climate change campaign. It was great to seestudents really engaging with complex issues and thesense of empowerment this gave them. By the end of the day they had channelled all this learning andenthusiasm into an action plan to take back to theirschool, containing their ideas on how to campaign forclimate justice within their community.Here are some of our favourite parts of the day

Oxjam October is Over … And it was amazing!
 
Oxjam totally rocked the month of October: music's been played, money's been raised and Oxjammers have beendemanding action on climate change till they are blue in the face! As a result, lives will be saved right across the globe.And we just can't thank you enough for your support! It couldn't have happened without you.
There have been so many Oxjam highlights:
Not least the takeover events on 25 October when Oxjam took over thenation's favourite venues. Over 2,000 artists played in 22 cities in venues from pubs and clubs to puppet theatres. InManchester, Chester and Blackburn thousands of people from across the North West came together to tackle poverty,make music and have a great time! Oxjam has already raised over £1m
since 2006 to help the world's poorest people. As soon as we have the grand totalfrom this October we'll share the news with you.
 
Manchester Campaigns Group hits the streets
On October 24
th
Manchester Campaigns group took to thestreets to be part of 350 degrees day of climate action.
On 24 October,
people in
181 countries
came together forthe
most widespread day of environmental action in theplanet's history.
At over
5200 events
around the world,people gathered to call for strong action and boldleadership on the climate crisis.Manchester activist Julie was really impressed by the sheervolume of support on the day. ‘Bring on Copenhagen –I’m ready for a fairer world.’
