Description
A report complied at the request of the Pennsylvania Legislature regarding after school programs that are government subsidized. The study ignores many athletics programs offered by 500 school districts to middle school and high school students at little or no cost to the student. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent by the Commonwealth's public and private schools for various programs offered during after-school hours like: athletics, school clubs, competition teams, dances and other social events, SADD groups, outdoor clubs, ski clubs, specialized music groups, FFA, FBLA, TSA etc.
"While teenagers have a greater ability to care for themselves than younger children, teens also engage in risky behaviors that research shows could potentially
be avoided if they were involved in supervised after school programs. However, teens are often reluctant to participate in such structured programs or have jobs or
other interests that keep them from participating. "
