Malorie Rutledge played a role in all four goals in LSU’s 4-1 win over Arkansas asthe Tigers clinched their third-straight SEC Western Division championship with thevictory. Rutledge scored the game-winning goal in the 30th minute of play for herteam-leading ninth goal of the season and her fifth goal in SEC play. She also tied acareer high for a single game with three assists on the night. It was a record-settingperformance for Rutledge as she set a new LSU career record for points scored with93 in her illustrious career in Baton Rouge. Rutledge eclipses the previous schoolrecord of 90 points scored by Artie Brown from 2001-04.

Lauren Hyde served up the 35-yard free kick that freshman Holly King headed in forFlorida’s final goal in UF’s 3-0 win versus No. 13 South Carolina on Oct. 30. In addi-tion, Hyde turned in her fifth consecutive and 13th complete match of the season.From her center back position, Hyde anchored the UF defensive effort as the Gatorsrecorded their fourth consecutive shut out. Hyde owns four assists this season, whichplaced her in a three-way tie for second among the Gators.

McKenzie Barney scored twice in the opening half to lead Florida to a 3-0 win overNo. 13 South Carolina. The win secured the Gators’ thirst consecutive SECtitle. Shescored the game-winning goal in the 20th minute when she knocked in the reboundoff an Erika Tymrak shot that hit the cross bar. Five minutes later she took a pass fromTymrak and hit a seven-yard shot to the far post. Barney moved into Florida’s start-ing lineup four matches ago and since that time has turned in two double-goalmatches versus nationally ranked opponents (No. 17 LSU and No. 13 SouthCarolina) and had an assist on UF’s only goal in a 1-0 win at Arkansas.

The Southeastern Conference unveiled its annual soccercoaches preseason All-SEC team, Thursday, to kick off another great season of SECwomen’s soccer.LSU led all schools with three selections while Florida and South Carolina eachhad two. Georgia’s Carrie Patterson was the only unanimous selection. The coachespreseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of 11 players. Each SEC head soc-cer coach voted for three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeep-er and one at-large candidate. Birmingham, Ala.-- Florida was selected as the favorite to claim the 2009Southeastern Conference women’s soccer title by the league’s 12 head coaches. Thismarks the 12th year that Florida has been tabbed by the coaches to win the title.Each of the opposing SECcoaches cast their vote for the Gators to win their fourthconsecutive SECChampionship. Florida returns eight starters, including All-SECper-formers Ashlee Elliott and Lauren Hyde, from last season’s squad that posted an 11-0-0 mark in league play.The Gators were selected tops in the East by garnering 66 total points (11 first-place votes), ahead of Georgia’s 53 points. Georgia returns nine starters, includingFirst Team All-SEC performer Carrie Patterson.In the West, LSU was first with 63 total points (eight first-place votes) compared to Auburn’s 58 points (four first-place votes). LSU returns eight starters from last year’ssquad that won a share of the SEC Western Division with a 7-3-1 record in leagueplay. Auburn returns nine starters from 2008, including SECFreshman of the Yearand First Team All-SEC pick Katy Frierson.Points were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division, though eachcoach was not allowed to vote for their own team. Each coach also voted for oneteam as an overall conference champion.The 2009 season begins August 21, with conference play set to begin September25. The 2009 SEC Tournament will be held November 4-8 at the Orange BeachSportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
