Fraternities and sororities compete for Greek Week championship Ethen Herrington TNE Writer Greek week kicked

off with NSU fraternities and sororities going head-to-head for Greek supremacy. The week is loaded with events that challenge both the brainpower, as well as the physical and creative aspects of competition. In prior years, the events have been less sports based, due to physicality of the sports chosen. Sports have steadily been making a comeback and now seem to have a stronger make up than in years past. "I think it's great," said Dillon Robertson, Wagoner sophomore. "Reason being we get to showcase more athleticism between fraternities and sororities." The sporting events this year include volleyball, Ping-Pong, Wiffle ball, dodge ball, track and field, golf and a kick-pass-punt competition. There are also a multitude of non-sporting events as well. The week will kick off with a flag competition. This will include a timed event to design a flag for each group. There will also be a canned food structure competition, a BBQ iron chef competition, Greek trivia, a bone marrow drive and a country themed Greek social. The competitions will be points based, and some of the competitions will be based on the participation of each fraternity and sorority. "Only rankings will be released every day, not the point total," said Cody Ryals, Greek week director. "The reason we do it that way is if one fraternity or sorority falls behind, they don't just give up and quit on it like they have in years past." The week of competition began at 4:30 p.m., April 6, in the north gym of the Jack Dobbins Field House and will last through April 10. Many of the sporting events will happen at Jack Dobbins, and some will be at the Suites pool. "I expect it to be very competitive as everyone tries to prove who is best on campus and earn some bragging rights," said Kaden Livermore, Grove freshman. "I grew up playing sports and have a very competitive mentality, so I love the opportunity I have to help my fraternity become Greek week champions." There are six fraternities and four sororities competing. At the end of the week, one fraternity and one sorority champion will be crowned. A year of bragging rights will ensue after the Greek champions are crowned. For more information, email herringe@nsuok.edu.
