‘Mi Ultimo Adios’

2 Samuel 23:1-7

Last words of famous people are very interesting, inspirational

and it lingers no matter how short. 2 Samuel 23:1-7 were the very
last words of David to the people of Israel, though definitely not
his dying words. In these verses he summarizes the works of God
in his life as King of Israel. Here are some things we can learn
from David’s last words.

Used By God (v.1)

This simple shepherd boy was chosen and exalted by God and
anointed as king. This tell us that God can use anybody He wants.
The Bible is full of story of ordinary people whom He used to
accomplish His divine purpose.

Raised By God (vv.2-4)

David was raised by God to His spokesman. David says that the
Word of the Lord was on his tongue. David’s responsibility is to
lead his people in righteousness, serve them in the ‘fear of the
Lord’, and be an example in deeds. This kind of responsibilities
was not only given to David, but to every followers of God.

Blessed by God (v.5)

God blessed David with ‘everlasting covenant’. He and his
descendants who lived righteously would experience salvation
and deliverance from all enemies forever. In the same manner,
we will also be blessed by God if we desire to live in obedience
and in righteousness before Him.

In vv.6-7, David describes the fate of evil men. All of them are “to
be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand.”
And when they are gathered, they are burned were they lie. They
too will get their reward. The concluding thought is that
Righteousness receive honor and the wickedness receive cursing.
