CMNM New-Media Internship Outline
Overview: This is a web-based, new-media journalism internship. All work will be for theweb with possible print components. As such, video, audio and slideshow production willbe web-quality and part of an overall toolset. This is not an internship for aspiring TV and radio broadcast journalists or print photojournalists. The internship will kick off with a one-week training session in Summit County led by CMNM Online Content Manager Rory Moulton and multimedia photographer/videographer Eric Drummond. Interns will leavewith a portfolio of links and a network of professional contacts.
Desired/Required Work:
1.Maintain a daily news blog of 500 words or less.2.Create a weekly multimedia feature (article with audio slideshow, podcast,interactive map or video component).3.Live-blog at least two events (trials, sporting events, city council meetings, etc)using CoverItLive.4.Promote work through social media outlets, including but not limited to Twitter,Facebook, LinkedIn, Flikr, YouTube, Digg.
Required Tools (not provided):
1.Laptop with standard office tools and web browsers (Firefox 3.5 required).2.Photo, Video and Audio editing software. Photoshop recommended. 1.Search-Engine Optimized writing/blogging for the web2.Digital audio components, or “Podcasts”3.Visual storytelling: Producing video, slideshows and maps for the web4.Basic HTML5.Building an online community/professional network6.Using a robust, news-specific content management system – Saxotech’s Publicus7.Using, managing a blogging platform
Interns will not:
Update the website regularly; provide technical support; cover a consistent beat; fetchcoffee; get bored
