Dear Senator: On behalf of more than 150,000 Americans for Prosperity-Florida activists, I urge you to oppose S.B. 66, when it comes to the floor for a vote today. This vote will be recorded in our 2014 legislative scorecard. S.B. 66 would allow a five-year, 1.2 billion-dollar tax increase for Miami Dade College with little oversight or accountability for those tax dollars. You have the ability to stop this unnecessary and burdensome tax increase by voting down this bad bill. The proponents of S.B. 66 have claimed that Miami Dade College needs the 1.2 billion dollar windfall because their funding has been decreased and they cant afford to properly serve their students. Unfortunately, this claim is untrue. In fact, Miami Dade Colleges funding from the legislature has increased annually over the past four years. Last year the College had an $88 million surplus, with an $84 million surplus the year prior. S.B. 66 is not about protecting education, it is about one group using an issue that is important to all Floridians to their financial benefit, at the detriment of Miami-Dade taxpayers. I urge you to vote against S.B. 66. Sincerely,

Abigail MacIver Florida Director of Policy Americans for Prosperity Cc: House Speaker Will Weatherford Representative Erik Fresen
