Derby Time!

Here is a riddle for you: What is the greatest 2 min-utes in sports but lasts more than 2 weeks? Here is ahint: it takes place less than 2 miles from campus?Want another hint: 2 words Mint Julep.That is right the 132nd Kentucky Derby is May 6thright here in Louisville at Churchill Downs.For those of you who have not been around for awhile there is more to Derby than just the Running of the Roses.Everything kicks off Saturday April 22 with Thunder Over Louisville. Thunder as it is most often called, isthe official kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival. Itis also the largest annual fireworks display in the na-tion. Thunder has a full day of events starting off with the Air Show at 3pm. You will also be able tovisit vendors and preview the Chow Wagon.The Chow Wagon officially opens April 27. TheChow Wagon is the ultimate collection of carnivalfoods and live music. What better way to beat thefinals blues than with some good old carnival food!There is more to the Derby Festival than just food andfireworks. On April 28 there will be a rush hour hotair balloon race. The race should start around 7.Along with the balloon race there will be a hot air balloon glow. This will take place at the fair grounds.Here the balloons will light and fill but will not takeflight.On April 29 the Derby marathon and mini marathonwill be ran. Part of the course runs right throughcampus, down 4th street to be more exact. Go outand support all the runners!The Running of the Roses will be May 6th. Youdon’t have to worry about losing you study time be-cause it will take place after finals. There is no rea-son for you not to participate in all the fun of theKentucky Derby.Don’t miss out on the greatest 2 minutes of sports!
