Speed News
May 9, 2006 Editor: Shelly Willingham
Summer semester is just around the corner. For thosewho have not had the experience of a summer here atSpeed, you might want to know that you don’t have ameal plan over the summer. That’s right you must fendfor yourself. To top things off, MIZTI’s is also closed.During the summer Chartwells will have the lower levelof the SAC open. This includes Papa Johns, Wendy’s,Subway, and OutTakes. However these are normallyonly open for lunch hours. This may be a prob-lem if you are likeme and do not like towalk to the other sidefor one meal. Sowhat is a hungry col-lege kid to do?One thing is to go back to your younger days and pack your own lunch. Yes youmay have to get up alittle bit earlier and pack a lunch, but is agrowling stomach worth a few less winks?Just think, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, juice, anda fruit snack. Better yet, the Lunchable. That’s rightyou remember those days. The Lunchable, the envy of all bag lunches. If you think that you will miss the dorm food that youare accustomed to, pack a Ramen and a microwave safe bowl and find the nearest microwave. If you still can’t find anything appetizing call up a friendthat still lives with their parents and give them the puppydog face until all of the leftovers make it to your dorm.If you have a block of time in between classes you canalways visit many of the restaurants around campus.Within walking distance you have McDonalds, TacoBell & Pizza Hut, Denny’s, China Inn, City Café, Ber-nos, and Papa Johns. If you feel like driving you haveHall of Fame Café, Cracker Barrel, Arby’s, DoubleDragon, Quizno’s, Dairy Kastle, and Cottage Inn allwithin minutes of campus. If you have enough time to run out to Bardstown Roadyou have Qudoba, Marks Feed Store, Boombazs Pizza-reia all there on the corner of Bardstown and EasternParkway.
Every weekend you ask your friends “What is there today?”. I knowthat you are tired of playing Scrabble and your spelling skills as welland your numb chuck stills are impeccable. So really, what is there todo? Each issue you will be able to find what is going on not only hereon campus, but what all there is to do in Louisville.

You will find several people just walking up anddown the street. There are several things to do onBardstown. One place I was recently introduced to isCafé 360. The atmosphere itself is amazing. There isno one way to describe it except for Louisville. They dohave a bar for those of you that are of age and drink spe-cials on a regular basis. 360 also has some amazingfood.I was introduced to 360 for the hookah or a way to enjoyflavored tobacco. However while there I found myself enjoying the atmosphere, food and drinks. If you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared to wait; but it is well worth it. Also if youhave the opportunity to ask for a server, ask for Debbie, she is awesome. While waiting you can visit the many shops. Yes I un-derstand you are like me and are poor but window shop- ping is always fun!Café 360 does offer some amazing food but if you arelooking for somewhere where you can watch peoplewalk by, I would suggest Bernos. If you want to check out the menu just try the one by campus. However thisBernos has a front porch where you can watch people ancars go by while enjoying their food. These are just a couple of suggestions for a night onBardstown, I suggest you and a group of friends godown and see it for yourself!

(continued from pg 1)
Pasta SaladThis recipe is one of my favorites. It is very custom-izable and really easy to make. Just take pasta( I suggest something tubular or thick)add in Italian dressing, chopped veggies (like cucumber or peppers)chunks of meat (optional)Mix it in a large bowl and there you go.Stuffed TomatoesWhen I was younger I had this every summer when thetomatoes in our garden came in. For this all you needis:A medium to large tomato, cut in to fourths and a filler. This filler can be chicken salad, tuna salad, pimentocheese spread. Simply put the filler in the tomato andgarnish with crackers.Fruit SaladFor this you will needApplesBananasOrangesOrange JuiceSugar Cut the fruit in to bite size pieces, put them in a con-tainer and add enough orange juice to cover the fruit.Add a teaspoon of sugar to keep it sweet and juicy. As you can see there are several alterative to the mealcard. I hope that your summer meals are just as goodas the meals bought by freshmen with over endowedmeal cards.
