SSSC Society Game Night draws to a close
 by Jared Hatfield, Editor Summer 2007 at the Universityof Louisville included nine separatefreshmen orientation sessions de-signed to help incoming freshmen become aware of the many differentopportunities available on campus.This year, incoming Speed Schoolstudents were given an additionalopportunity to become involved andask questions at the Speed SchoolStudent Council hosted game nights.

rector of Administration explains,
“this new event was introduced to
freshmen as a way to better connectthem with Speed School Student
Council and the different societies.”
 
Everything wasn’t just business.
The game night was a social gather-ing in the Vogt computer lab wherea variety of games includingCounter Strike, Starcraft, WiiSports, Halo 3 Beta, Guitar Hero 2,and others were available for fresh-men to enjoy.A total of 168 different fresh-men attended the game nights. Theturnout is considered to be a success,as it was the first year for this event.Council hopes to make the gamenight a yearly occurrence.
Student technology fee provides “free” software
 
 by Jared Hatfield, Editor The approaching fall semester will be bringing a swarm of fresh-men and their accompanying tabletPCs. As a result, a mandatory $25technology fee will be used to pro-vide all Speed School students, in-cluding upperclassmen, access to alengthy list of software. According
to Speed School’s web site, the soft-
ware will be available for downloadon July 1.The software bundle includes awide variety of software includingthe following: Windows Vista Ulti-mate, Microsoft Office Enterprise2007, Labview 8.2, Maple 11, Math-cad 14.0, Solid Edge V19, andMATHLAB 2007. This package of software comes to a grand totalvalue of over $1,400. The totalamount of fees paid by students doesnot come close to reaching this totalvalued software.All software titles are availableto be installed on a single computer and used while a student is enrolledin Speed School or after they gradu-ate. Those who drop out of SpeedSchool will be required to uninstallall of the software.Links and instructions on how todownload the software for free or  purchase a DVD of the software for a fee are available at http://speed.louisville.edu under the TabletPC Program heading.

Free food on Fourth of July in front of Threlkeld
 by Jared Hatfield, Editor The standing Freshman Councilof the SSSC is hosting their lastevent on July 4. The event will con-sist of a cookout with free food anda variety of games. The activitieswill begin at 1:00 PM and will lastuntil 3:00 PM.Food will include burgers, hot-dogs, chips, and drinks. A variety of games will be held, including vol-leyball and cornhole. All are invitedto enjoy the holiday, free food, andfestival.This will be the last event held by the current Freshman Council,which hosted the Wii Sports Tourna-ment in the spring semester. Thecurrent council will be replaced withthe incoming freshmen in the fallsemester.
