MAY/JUNE 2008 GENERAL/ADVANCED BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONSA. NOTES FOR THE GUIDANCE OF CANDIDATES
 
Please read these information carefully before you proceed to register for the May/June2008 General/Advanced Business Certificate Examinations.
1. ELIGIBILITY
The May/June 2008 General and Advanced Business Certificate Examination is open toboth individual private candidates and students in approved institutions.
2. SUBJECTS/PAPERS AVAILABLE
At the General Level, 14 subjects including Information Technology will be madeavailable to candidates. Candidates will be required to choose up to 8 subjects.At the Advanced Level, 19 subjects will be available to candidates to choose from.Again, candidates may choose up to 8 subjects.For each subject that a candidate enters for at the Advanced level, he/she is required tohave EITHER obtained a minimum of Grade E in a related subject at the GeneralBusiness Certificate Level or RSA or the SSSCE/WASSCE OR have a minimum of Grade 6 at the SC/GCE Ordinary Level or equivalent examination. Please see AppendixA on page 17 for your guidance.
3. TYPES OF REGISTRATION
Candidates for the General Business Certificate Examination may enter on individualsubject basis or for the award of Group Certificates. The subject combinations allowedfor the award of group certificates are indicated in Appendix B on page 18 of thismanual.
Group certificates will be awarded for passes at ONE SITTING. Thosewho are unable to pass all the subjects at one sitting will be awarded singlesubject certificates for the subjects they pass in. And for each choice made,candidates may have to offer 2 compulsory subjects and at least 3 others from theoptions to qualify for the group certificate.Candidates who enter for the award of Diploma certificates but do not meet therequirements will be automatically converted to the individual subject registrationand will be awarded certificate(s) for the individual subject(s) they pass in.For the award of the Diploma certificates, candidates should pass in all therequired subjects at one or two sittings within two consecutive academic years.
 
Candidates entering for the Advanced Business Certificate Examination may doso on individual subject basis or for the award of the Diploma Certificates. Thesubject combinations allowed for the award of the Diploma Certificates areindicated on Appendix C, on page 19 of this manual.

4. DATES FOR THE EXAMINATION
These are clearly stated on the timetables for the examinations. The timetables areattached to these instructions for your careful study and guidance. See Appendices D andE on pages 20 to 23 of this brochure.Please keep the timetables and use the appropriate one for the examination you enter for.No other copies will be sent to you.
 
5. ENTRY PERIOD
The entries of private candidates and approved institutions will be accepted during theperiod advertised in the national dailies

Candidates may buy their entry scratch cards atany of the West African Examinations Council’s offices in Accra and at the regionalcapitals.The location of the offices are as follows:(1). Greater Accra Region:WAEC Offices behind Ridge Hospital, Accra(2). Eastern RegionWAEC Branch Office, Old Estate Road, Koforidua(3). Central RegionWAEC Branch Office, Adisadel Estate, Cape Coast(4). 6. HOW TO ENTER
(1) Registration for the May/June 2008 General andAdvanced Business Certificate Examinations is strictly
online
for purely private candidates and offline/batchregistration for candidates in approved institutions.(2) Prospective candidates for the examination must go throughthe following procedures:(a) Buy an entry scratch card
and
subject(s) card(s) for the number of subjects you wish to enter for (see pages 4, 6 & 7). Remember to buyEnglish Language oral card, Information Technology practical card, andShorthand practical card if you will enter for any of those subjects.(b) Access the website for the online registration on
Registration.ghanawaec.org
(c) Select
“Link to ABCE MAY/JUNE”
if you are registeringfor the ABCE. ORSelect “
Link to GBCE MAY/JUNE”
if you are registering for theGBCE(Please
ignore
“Link to WASSCE”)(d) Click on
“start registration”.
 (e) Enter the PIN Number and Serial Number on the entry scratchcard.(f) Fill in your personal information i.e. name, date of birthand sex. Please see items 8 and 9 below.(g) Indicate whether or not you are disabled (blind, deaf, dumbor physically) and answer any question that follows (see item 10 below).
 
(h) Provide your email and postal address (see item 10below). Telephone numbers may be provided alongsidethe postal address.(i) Provide a question or statement for the security question.
