The Holden Arboretum - 2014 Price Increase
Talking Points for Staff
 January 14, 2014
The Holden Arboretum is increasing membership and admission rates for the first time in over 10 years; even with the increases our rates remain lower than almost all of our peer institutions in NE Ohio. Holden continues its commitment to promoting a family experience by creating pricing levels that benefit families and young people.
-

 Youth admission increases only $1
-

Youth age limit has been extended to 18 and under (previously 12 and under).
-

Children 5 and under are still admitted free of charge.
While “Free Admission” days will be reduced, guests will enjoy free admission at least once per season. Seniors will now receive a 50 discount on Tuesdays as opposed to free admission and will be eligible for a membership discount. Holden hopes more visitors will be encouraged to become members because membership encourages guests to engage more fully with our programs and mission. This is one reason we are keeping membership rates low. Holden has simplified the membership levels:
-

Individual membership - $55
-

Member Plus (includes friends and family) - $65
-

Seniors will now receive a $5 discount
Holden’s new “Member Plus” category enables members to bring guests with them to enjoy free admission to Holden. Donor level memberships will continue to receive increased benefits and exclusive engagement and event opportunities.
-

Pine $125
-

Azalea $175
-

Viburnum $300
Over the past several years Holden has made significant improvements that increase our value both as a guest experience and as an institution that benefits our region. Those improvements include:
-

New and improved gardens and guest amenities
-

School programming
-

Greater protection of our forests and natural areas
-

World-class scientific research in ecology and horticulture
-

Outreach to our region’s professional, government and volunteer “green” communities
-

Members of the Cleveland Botanical Garden (CBG) will no longer receive free admission at Holden as a benefit of the reciprocal garden program. We hope that our visitors will support both of our unique organizations.
