The purpose of this lecture is to review some of thebackground material required to undertake the refriger-ation laboratory. The Thermodynamics of the basic re-frigeration cycle will be reviwed and some aspects of of simple heat exchanger modelling will be discussed.
QHeat Refrig. Lab.
A refrigerator is a machine that removes heat froma low temperature region. Since energy cannot be de-stroyed, the heat taken in at a low temperature must bedissipated to the surroundings. The Second Law of Ther-modynamics states that heat will not pass from a coldregion to a warm one without the aid of an externalagent”. Therefore, a refrigerator will require this “exter-nal agent”, or energy input, for its operation.
