REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE EXAMINATION OF STUDENTS FORFIVE YEARSB.A.LL.B.(HONS.) COURSE
1.
There shall be a course of study leading to the degree
 
of B.A. LL.B (Hons.).The duration of thecourse shall be five years having ten Semesters. There shall be ten written examinations, viz.,Semesters I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X, one at the end of each Semester of sixmonths duration. A candidate must have to pass in each of these examinations to qualify for theB.A.LL.B (Hons.) Degree.
2.
The subjects and papers for the course shall be as per the Course Structure notified by theUniversity. The University has discretion to amend and revise the Course structure from time totime upon recommendation of the Board of Studies.
3.
(a) The students admitted to the Course in the Academic session 2004-05 shall have an end-semester examination for the 1
st
and 2
nd
Semester for a total of 60 marks. The remaining 40marks shall comprise internal assessment during the 1
st
and 2
nd
Semester examinations.(b) Ordinarily written examinations for 60 marks shall be for a period of 3 hours and thecandidates shall be required to answer 5 questions consisting of long and short answer typequestions including objective type questions.

The students admitted to the course in the Academic Session 2004-05 shall have an end-semester examination for the 3

Semester for a total of 100marks. The examination shall be of three hours duration and the candidates shall be required toanswer 5 (five) questions consisting of long and short answer type questions. There shall be nointernal assessment except in the Practical Papers. The Practical Papers shall be of 100 marksand there shall be total internal assessment for those papers. The marks of internal assessmentshall be submitted to the University by the College/Institute concerned at or about the time of the written examination.5.All written examinations shall be in English.6.A candidate who has prosecuted a regular course of study in Semester I shall be admitted tothat Examination subject to submission of Examination Enrolment Form and other requirementsin such form and within such time as may be notified by the University.

A candidate who has passed the examination of Semester I/II/III/IV/V/VI/VII/VIII/IX andprosecuted a regular course of study in Semester II/III/IV/V/VI/VII/VIII/IX/X as the case maybe shall be admitted to the respective examination subject to submission of ExaminationEnrolment Form together with the other requirements in such form and within such time as maybe notified by the University.The list of qualified candidates who pass the Semester I/II/III/IV/V/VI/VII/VIII/IX examinationas the case may be shall be published by the University as soon as possible after theExamination.

(a) If a candidate after completion of a regular course of study in a Semester fails to enroll asa candidate for the respective Semester examination or fails to present himself/herself at theexamination or appears but fails to complete the examination on account of illness or any otherreason considered sufficient by the University or appears but fails to pass the examination inmore than two Papers, he/she shall be eligible to appear at anyone or, if necessary, both of thetwo immediately following examinations of the same standard as a casual candidate withoutattending classes.(b)A casual candidate can avail of not more than two consecutive chances to pass the SemesterExamination.9.In order to pass the examination in any Semester a candidate must secure 40% marks in eachpaper including Practical Paper.
10.
There shall be no post-publication re-assessment of paper in any Semester of B.A.LL.B (Hons.)Course.11.(a) A student must pass separately in each paper of different examinations. Those who pass ina paper shall not be permitted to sit for examination in that paper again. Non appearance in apaper will be counted as failure in that paper.(b)All candidates shall be promoted to the next semester class of a year after the examinationof the previous semester irrespective of marks scored at the said semester subject to fulfillmentof conditions hereunder:
 
i)A candidate of Semester I shall be promoted to Semester II if he/she doesnot have more than two back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester I.ii)A candidate of Semester II shall be promoted to the Semester III if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester I and Semester II examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester II examination shall not exceed two.iii)A candidate of Semester III shall be promoted to the Semester IV if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester II and Semester III examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester III examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester I.
iv)
A candidate of Semester IV shall be promoted to the Semester V if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester III and Semester IV examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester IV examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester II.
v)
A candidate of Semester V shall be promoted to the Semester VI if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester IV and Semester V examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester V examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester III.
vi)
A candidate of Semester VI shall be promoted to the Semester VII if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester V and Semester VI examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester VI examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester IV.
vii)
A candidate of Semester VII shall be promoted to the Semester VIII if he/she does not have more than four back papers out of all the examinationpapers of Semester VI and Semester VII examinations, provided that the numberof back papers of Semester VII examination shall not exceed two and he/she hascleared all the back papers of Semester V.
viii)
A candidate of Semester VIII shall be promoted to the Semester IX if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester VII and Semester VIII examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester VIII examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester VI.
ix)
A candidate of Semester IX shall be promoted to the Semester X if he/shedoes not have more than four back papers out of all the examination papers of Semester VIII and Semester IX examinations, provided that the number of backpapers of Semester IX examination shall not exceed two and he/she has clearedall the back papers of Semester VII.(c)Candidates failing in one or two papers of any examination of SemesterI/II/III/IV/V/VI/VII/VIII/IX shall be eligible to clear those back papers in the regularexaminations of same standard to be held in subsequent semesters. A candidate shallget two chances to clear the back papers in the immediately following examinations.
(d)
There shall be no repeat / supplementary examinations.(e)A special final examination of all the back papers not exceeding two for eachcandidate of Semester VIII/IX/X shall be held for Semester X candidates only normallyafter six weeks of publication of the result of the examination of Semester X.
(f)
Candidates who fail to pass in all papers of their examinations when they first appearin the Semester X examination and in the special final year examination shall beeligible to appear as casual candidates in the Semester X examination of the nextsession. The maximum number of such chances shall however be governed by theprovisions of Clause 8(a).
 
 12.A candidate securing at least 60% marks in aggregate in all ten semester examinations takentogether shall be placed in the First Class and the candidates securing 40% and above but lessthan 60% in the aggregate shall be placed in the Second Class.13.The Board of Studies in Law shall recommend a panel of names of paper-setters, examiners,moderators and scrutinisers.
14.
The examiners for answer-scripts of all LL.B (Hons.) examinations shall ordinarily be the wholetime teachers holding either substantive posts or contractual appointments drawing minimumbasic pay of a lecturer. The examiners for the Pre-law Papers i.e. the Social Science papers shallbe the Part-time faculty as recommended by the Board of Studies.
15.
The paper setter for a paper shall normally be a teacher as mentioned in clause 14.16.(1) The Board of Moderators shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor on recommendation of the Board of Studies. The Board of Moderators shall moderate the questions in order to ensurethat the questions are in conformity with the syllabus and the students are required to answerquestions of all types.(2) If the Board of Moderators is of the opinion that the questions have not covered thesyllabus, it may set questions from those parts of the syllabus which have not been covered.17.In any case not covered under these Regulations, the Vice-Chancellor shall have the power toissue directions not inconsistent with the Act/Statute/Ordinances.
