Subject: SFSM DPH "Real Time" Sunshine Audit #4: Why Heavy Unsearchable Image
Files Discourage the Spread of Government Transparancy
Department of Public Health Submissions. A whole bunch of them. Eight Messages.
All that extra work by our dedicated civil servants to create really big low
resolution unsearchable scanned image files from what appears to be low quality
print copy.
One 3 page (single side) e-mail 2M. 2M! Most of you out there don t want to
\ufffd
receive big files like that right? But here by way of example\ufffd
Even Single Page e-mails 700 k plus.
Ms. Shields complains the volume of e-mails consumes a lot of space on their e-
mail system. Not surprising since they have elected to archive really big low
resolution unsearchable scanned image files from what appears to be low quality
print copy.
All that extra work by our dedicated civil servants to create really big low
resolution unsearchable scanned image files from what appears to be low quality
print copy. All so entirely unnecessary when copies of the original electronic
versions of those same documents would have required NO WORK AT ALL.
Archiving these e-mails in their original electronic formats would reduce the size
of these files by 90% or more. This in turn makes it easier to distribute these
Public Documents which of course we re sure the DPH wants to encourage just like
\ufffd
the Mayors Office and Clerk of the Board.
