The Lone Vampire
His eyes were black, as black as the darkest coal from the earth. He hadn’t fed for manydays, so many in fact that he had lost track and he really didn’t care. Could he die if herefused to feed? Not likely but he felt it was worth a try. He had been alone for twohundred years and he was weary from the aloneness. He had no idea where he was going andit didn’t really matter because no matter where he went it was always the same. He couldn’tafford to get close to anyone without putting them in danger the biggest danger being himself.He thought back to the beginning all those years ago when he was human and looked forwardto the future. Now he only thought of the past when he was in love and was planning to marryher. The thought of Violet was the only thing that warmed him even after all those years.Her death had all but destroyed him and he remained an empty shell even when he was nolonger mortal. He had planned to end his life that cold bleak winter night. He had gottendrunk thinking that would make it easier to do but as he drank he was approached by a womanwhose beauty he had never beheld. She was perfect in every way; she flowed so gracefullythat he couldn’t take his eyes off her. He realized later that he should have sensedsomething off about her. She led him to her room and then to her bed where he lay downwaiting for her as she removed her dress. She approached him slowly enticing him with herscantily clothed body. She had waist length auburn hair and green eyes that reminded him ofemeralds. She climbed on top of him and unbuttoned his shirt as she leaned forward to kisshis lips. He caressed her breasts and got lost in the ecstasy of the feel of her body. Shenuzzled his neck and suddenly he felt a sting and then warmth wash over him. And that wasthe last thing he remembered until he woke the next morning.
 
The girl was gone and he was alone in a room he didn’t really remember. He felt weak anddisoriented as he got up to splash some water on his face trying to pull himself together.What he saw in the mirror startled him. He was pale and drawn and he had traces of bloodaround his mouth and two marks he didn’t recognize on his neck. None of this made sense tohim. He cleaned up and went to get something to eat; perhaps food would make him feelbetter. As he ate he tried to recall the night before but it all came to him in a haze. Helooked up and she was standing in front of him or was she? He wasn’t sure of anything at thatpoint. She smiled as she sat down across from him and again he couldn’t take his eyes offher. They talked for a while as he finished his meal. She told him her name was Felicia andthat she was just passing through town heading east to visit some friends. He was intriguedby her voice and the way she spoke. She had a slight accent that he couldn’t place but shewas so hypnotic that it was only a passing thought to him. When he had finished his food shelooked into his eyes and invited him to her room again. Something deep inside warned him notto do it but he couldn’t stop himself he wanted her. It was like he had no will which as itturned out was exactly the case. The ritual from the night before repeated itself exceptwhen he woke it was night and she was still there. She lay on her side watching him sleep.She smiled an alluring smile and he was lost in her beauty again. He felt weaker than he hadthat morning and he sensed she knew why. He asked what she was doing to him but she gavehim no answer she just continued to smile. There was something wrong this time, he thoughthe was hallucinating when he saw what appeared to be fangs. “Relax,” she told him stillsmiling, “This is the last time you have to do this. You’ll feel much better when we finish.”Before he could react she had her fangs sunk deep into his neck drinking his blood. For somereason this time he was aroused by what she was doing and without understanding why he
