1) Unpack a new antenna.
2) Examine the antenna for any visible damage, crack or connector problem.
If any: do not use it any more and contact the personnel concerned immediately.
Go to step 1)
If no problem: go to next step.
3) Connect the antenna with jumper.
4) Test the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) of the antenna using a radio
analyzer in different orientations.
If the VSWR is higher than 1.5 in all orientations: there may be problems with
the antenna or its connectors. Go to step 5).
If the VSWR is higher than 1.5 just in some orientations: it is not definite that
the antenna has problems. Install the antenna and test its VSWR, if it is still high
than 1.5, replace the antenna.
If the VSWR is lower than 1.5: the antenna is normal and ready for installation.
5) Examine the connectors or replace the antenna and go to step 3).
3.7 Testing TTA
Caution:
During the test, make sure that the port not being tested is connected with a 50
matched terminal load. If not, error of the test result may be great.

To guarantee the installation quality of the antenna and feeder system, test the feeder
equipment as follows before the installation.
1) Unpack a new TTA.
2) Examine the TTA for any obvious damage.
3) Test the VSWR on both ports.
If the test result is much different from the corresponding specification:
the TTA is abnormal, replace the TTA and go to step 1).
If the test result meets the specification: the TTA is normal and ready for
installation.

4) Fix the upper end of the feeder in a proper position by multiple-point fixing lest
that the feeder falls from the tower.

Note:
Do not position it too close to the antenna or the TTA, as shown in Figure 4-37.
Based on the different fixing requirements, select a 1-for-3 or 1-for-1 fixing clip, as
shown in Figure 4-38 and Figure 4-39.

4.10.5 Laying and Fixing Feeders
I. Layout Principles
Abide by the following principles when laying and fixing feeders:
The minimum bending radius of the feeder is 20 times longer than the feeder
diameter.
Feeders should not cross each other when running along the cabling rack or
down the tower. Especially lay the feeders from the antenna to the place where
they are led into the equipment room in good order.
Lay the feeders from top to bottom, and be sure to put the feeders in order and
fix them with fixing clips while laying the feeders.
Mount the feeder fixing clips every 2 m or so along the tower or the cabling rack.
Based on the actual requirements, select the 1-for-3, 1-for-2 or 1-for-1fixing clip,
as respectively shown in Figure 4-43, Figure 4-44 and Figure 4-45.

II. Laying and Fixing Sequence
The procedure of laying and fixing the feeders is as follows:
1) Design the feeder arrangement and lead-in plan based on the sector
requirements in the engineering design document.

Note:
Normally, arrange the feeders in the same sector in one column or row. Keep the
arrangement sequences of the feeders in each column or row is kept consistent with
each other.

2) Arrange the feeders according to the designed sequence.
3) Fix the feeders onto the tower or the cabling rack while arranging them neatly.
Meanwhile, mount the feeder grounding clips and replace the temporary labels
with formal metal labels.

Note:
Bind a metallic label to a feeder using a black cable tie at the following points:
The point 200 mm away from the lower connector under the outdoor antenna.
The point 200~300 mm down the tower platform.
The point 200 mm away from the outside of the feeder window.
The bent.
When binding labels to the feeders, make sure all labels are neatly laid out. All labels
and cable ties should face the same direction. Leave a slack of 5~10 mm when
cutting the cable ties.

III. Waterproof and EncapSulation Treatment to Connectors
Make waterproof and encapsulation treatment to connectors in the following cases:
When a connector is not completely made in one day or a completed connector
will not be used soon, the connector should go through simple waterproof
treatment.
When the installation of the antenna and feeder system cannot be completed in
one day, the outdoor connectors or exposed ends of feeders should go through
simple waterproof treatment. All the outdoor connectors should go through the
waterproof and capsulation treatment after the installation and the test of the
antenna and feeder system.
4.10.6 Grounding Feeders
I. Installation Locations of Feeder Grounding Clips
The feeder grounding clips are installed simultaneously with the feeder layout. Usually,
each feeder is grounded at three points.
When antennas are installed on the tower, each feeder is grounded at:
The point of the feeder within 1 m from the feeder connector
The point of the feeder at the bottom of the tower
The point of the feeder outside the feeder window in which the feeder is led (as
close to the window as possible).
When antennas are installed on the rooftop, each feeder is grounded at:
The point of the feeder within 1 m from the feeder connector.
At the place where the feeder is to be led down from the rooftop.
At the point of the feeder outside the feeder window in which the feeder is led (as
close to the window as possible).

However, when the length of a feeder is more than 60 m, feeder grounding clips is
applied along the feeder. Usually, the grounding clips are mounted every 20 m. In
addition, if the feeder is laid on the rooftop prior to entering into the equipment room
and the length to be laid on the rooftop exceeds 20 m, a feeder grounding clip is
applied on the rooftop.

4.11 Leading Feeders into Equipment Room
Note:
This step is needed only for indoor BTS. For outdoor BTS, skip this section for
BTS3012A.

Generally, the feeder window installed in the BTS equipment room is of 12-hole type.
Therefore, this section only describes how to lead the feeders into the equipment
room through the 12-hole feeder window. As for the 27-hole feeder window, take this
section for reference.
4.11.1 Feeder Arrangement Principles
Abide by the following principles when leading the feeders into the equipment room:
There are 4 large openings in a 12-hole encapsulated window. And each
opening is divided into 3 holes, each for one feeder;
The feeders should be laid out in clockwise or counter clockwise according to
their numbers in the three small holes of the same opening;
When the front side of the cabinet is in parallel with the direction in which the
feeder is led into the room, or the back side of the cabinet faces the direction in
which the feeder is led into the room, a sector is sorted into a line, and the
sorting sequence of each line should be kept consistent. Please see Figure 4-56
for the sorting sequence.

The layout of the feeders should facilitate expansion, since the layout in the
feeder window is not allowed to be changed during expansion, instead, it is only
possible to add feeders in the feeder window or to change the jumper connection
on the set-top;
The feeder layout in the feeder window should facilitate the layout on the cabling
rack and the connection on the set top. The feeders should be in parallel with no
intertwining.
4.11.2 Procedure to Lead Feeders into Equipment Room
The procedure of leading feeders into the equipment room is as follows:
Installation Manual Antenna Feeder Installation

Huawei Technologies Proprietary
4-53
Caution:
When leading feeders into the equipment room, it is suggested that someone
helps with the feeder leading in the room lest the feeders damage the indoor
equipment.
When the feeder window and the indoor cabling racks are not in the same
horizontal, bend the feeders in a natural manner, and the minimum bending radius
of the feeder is 20 times longer than the feeder diameter or even longer.

1) Lead each feeder into the equipment room through the feeder window.
2) Make the waterproof curves of the feeders outside the feeder window.
3) Mount the sealing gasket and sleeve for the feeder window. Make sure the glue-
adding holes in the sealing sleeve face upward.
4) Cut feeders to the accurate length based on the design requirements.
5) Make the indoor feeder connectors.
6) Attach the label at the point 200mm away from the connector.
4.12 Installing Jumpers
The connectors of the indoor jumpers (1/2) are usually made on site.
4.12.1 Installation Requirements for Jumpers
Observe the following requirements when installing the indoor jumpers for BTS30 and
BTS312:
Lay the jumpers between the cabinet top and the cabling rack in parallel.
To route the jumpers through the cabling rack to the upper part of the cabling
rack, route them inside the rack.
Bend the jumpers in a natural manner and the bending radius is 20 times longer
than the jumper diameter.
Lay the jumpers between the cabinet top and the cabling rack with proper
tightness.
Bind the jumpers onto all crossbars of the cabling rack. Bind the cable ties in the
same direction and cut them smoothly without sharp ends.
Label all indoor jumpers. Attach the labels at the places 100 mm away from both
ends of a jumper.
Observe the following requirements when installing the outdoor jumpers for
BTS3012A:

than the jumper diameter.
Do not route the feeder too tight or loose.
4.12.2 Installing Jumpers at the Cabinet Top
The procedure of installing jumpers on the cabinet top is as follows:
1) Cut the jumper to a proper length according to the actual distribution route.
2) Make the cabinet-top connectors (7/16DIN male) and the N-type connectors to
the feeder following the instructions delivered with the components.
3) For BTS30 and BTS312, connect one end of the jumper to the corresponding
connector of the antenna and feeder jumper on the cabinet top according to the
BTS configuration.
4) For BTS3012A, lead the jumpers through the cabling holes of the cabinet base,
and connect them to the cabling hole of RF cable in BTS3012A.
5) Label the jumper.

As the feeders are required to be cut off at the point 800mm ~ 1500mm away from
the place where they enter into the room, the lightning arrester can be located. Install
it by the engineering design drawings.
All lightning arresters should be oriented in the same direction and securely
connected. The lightning protection end of the lightning arresters should be
connected to the feeder and the equipment end to the set-top jumper.
Installation procedure:
1) Check if the type of the lightning arrester is fit for its application and orient it in
the right direction.
2) Connect the jumpers with the equipment ends of the lightning arrests.
3) After leading the feeders into the equipment room and making the connectors,
connect the feeders with the lightning protection ends of the lightning arrests.
4.13.2 Installing Grounding Bar of Lightning Arrester
For BTS30 and BTS312, normally the lightning arrester should be installed on the
cabling rack. For BTS3012A, or if there is no cabling rack available in the equipment
room, or for some reasons it cannot be installed on the cabling rack, it can also be
fixed on the wall with the delivery-attached expansion bolts. The grounding bar is
shown in Figure 4-60.

4.14 Testing BTS Antenna and Feeder System
Measure the antenna and feeder VSWR on the jumpers on the cabinet top using a
radio analyzer.
Normally, the antenna VSWR is less than 1.5 (including when there is TTA in the
system). However, the VSWR of the N-type male connector on the jumper (1/4)
between the antenna and feeder system and the BTS duplexer output port is less
than 1.3 (The corresponding return loss is 18 dB). If the VSWR is greater than 1.5, it
indicates there are problems in the antenna and feeder system. In this case, measure
the VSWR hop by hop or measure the return loss of the entire system to locate the
problems.
4.15 Waterproofing Outdoor Connectors
After the installation and VSWR test of all the antenna and feeder system, the
connectors of outdoor jumpers and TTA or antennas, and the connectors of outdoor
jumpers and feeders or feeder lightning arresters should be done waterproof
treatment.
There are two types of waterproof tape needed: PVC tape and waterproof insulation
tape, as shown in Figure 4-64.
(1) (2)

(1) PVC tape (2) waterproof insulation tape
Figure 4-64 PVC tape and waterproof insulation tape

Note:
When wrapping up a connector, wrap it up with a layer of insulation tape before
wrapping it with the semi conductive adhesive tape for the convenience of removing
the adhesive tape.

The procedure of waterproof and encapsulation treatment is as follows:
1) Clean the feeder connectors or feeder grounding clamp.
2) Stick the end of the waterproof insulation tape to the feeder at the point 20-
50mm from the connector or grounding clamp.
3) Stretch the tape until it is 3/4~1/2 as wide as its original shape. Wrap up the
feeder spirally upward while maintaining this stretching strength. Make sure that
the overlapping area of adjacent tape layers is 1/2 of the stretched width, as
shown in Figure 4-65.

Caution:
Make sure that the stretched width is at least 1/2 of the original width. Otherwise,
over-stretching may damage the molecular structure of the tape and reduce its
reliability.

Figure 4-65 Wrapping up the feeder with waterproof insulation tape
4) When wrapping the feeder to the point 20-50mm from another connector or
grounding clamp, reverse the direction to let the wrapping goes back towards the
starting point. When it reaches the starting point, reverse the direction one more
time. In this way, the feeder is wrapped up with three layers of waterproof
insulation tape.
5) After wrapping, squeeze the tape until it sticks to the feeder to make sure no air
remains between tape layers.
6) When the wrapping of the waterproof insulation tape is done, wrap the feeder up
with PVC tapes to prevent the wearing out and aging of the waterproof insulation
tape.
7) The wrapping of PVC tape is similar to that of waterproof insulation tape. Start
wrapping spirally upward with 1/2 width of overlapping between adjacent layers.

Reserve the wrapping direction twice to make three-layer cover. Be sure to
maintain the stretching strength.
4.16 Waterproofing Feeder Window
Right after installing and testing the antenna and feeder system, apply waterproof and
encapsulation treatment to the feeder window.
The procedure of waterproof treatment for feeder window is as follows:
1) Put the two semicircle sealing sleeves around the outside of the big holes in the
feeder window.
2) Put the two steel hoops in the two grooves of the sealing sleeves, and tighten the
screws on the hoop using a screwdriver.
3) Inject the glass cement to the gap around the feeder window.
4) Plug the holes unused with special stoppers.
Figure 4-66 shows the feeder window that has gone through the waterproof treatment.

Figure 4-66 The feeder window going through the waterproof treatment
If the feeder is to led into the equipment room through a glass window, apply
waterproof treatment as follows:
1) Remove the glass, and cut an opening of a proper size round the corner of the
glass.
2) Protect the cutting position using the rubber or adhesive tape. Wrap the feeder to
be led through the opening with the adhesive tape lest that the opening edge
scratch the feeder.
3) Lead in the feeder through the glass window.

SN Check item
1 The feeders are arranged neatly and nicely.
2
In accordance with the standard requirements, the feeder and jumper
labels are attached neatly and nicely and oriented in the same direction.
3 The feeders are not broken or twisted. No copper skin is exposed.
4
The bending radius of the feeder is no less than 20 times longer than
the feeder diameter.
5
The installed feeder fixing clips are spaced evenly and oriented in the
same direction.
6
The feeders keep straight for at least 0.5m on both directions from the
point where they are led to the equipment room, and for 0.3m on both
sides of the lightning protection frame.
7
The feeders do not cross each other. They are arranged in neat and
straight row and column at the entry to the equipment room. The
degrees of their bending are identical.
8
When the front of the cabinets is in parallel to the cabling direction of the
lead-in feeders, the feeders in each sector are arranged in the same
row. The arrangement sequences of all rows are the same. When the
front of the cabinets is perpendicular to the cabling direction of the lead-
in feeders, the feeders in each sector are arranged in the same column.
The arrangement sequences of all columns are the same.
9 The feeder connectors are prepared and fastened in a standard way.
10
The feeders are connected in a right way and arranged in the right
sectors.
11
Make waterproof curves for the feeders before they are led into the
equipment room.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary
A-2
Caution:
For the convenience of the future expansion, the antenna spacing should be
strictly up to the above requirements.
When TX and RX antennas share one antenna stand, the horizontal spacing
requirements can be ignored. However, the vertical spacing has to be guaranteed.
The TX and RX antennas cannot be at the same lever at all.
The angle of the highest-radiation-intensity directions of antennas should be
greater than the half of the vertical plane half-power angle of an antenna. The
vertical plane half-power angle of an antenna normally ranges between 4~12.
Therefore, the angle of the highest-radiation-intensity directions of antennas
should be greater than 7. The higher the antenna gain is, the smaller the angle is.
Normally, the longer the antenna is (i.e. the higher the antenna gain is), the larger
the antenna spacing should be.

A.2 For Directional Antennas
As the isolation of the 120 directional antenna should be 30dB, the directional
antenna spacing should satisfy the requirements listed in Table A-2.

B.1 Engineering Labels for Feeders
The outdoor feeder is identified with metal tags, and the indoor feeder with paper
labels. The white tags marked with black letters are fixed to the feeder with cable ties.
Metal labels should be bound to the feeders using black ties at the following
recommended places:
The places 200mm away from the outdoor feeder connectors;
The places 200-300mm down the tower platform;
The places 200mm away from the outside of the feeder encapsulated window;
The turning of the feeder.
Paper labels should be stuck at the places 200mm away from the outdoor feeder
connectors.
Be sure to turn the labels bound to the feeder outside. Keep the tags nice and neat.
Lay both the tags and the cables ties in the same direction.
Outdoor feeders are identified with metal tags, and indoor feeders with paper labels.
Both metal tags and paper labels are called engineering labels. The engineering labels
are described as Table B-1.
