"THE ESSENTIALS OF ARCHERY", "How to Use and Make Bows and Arrows" is anattempt to present the fundamentals of Archery to those who wish to take up the sport. It tellshow to use bows and arrows, gives rules and regulations of the game, and contains a varietyof other archery information. For those who like to do something in their spare time, it contains information on the makingof tackle which may help them to employ their leisure in a profitable and pleasurable manner.Archery as a sport is growing, there is no question of that. Archery matter in the press, insport news, rotogravure section and cartoon is common. Articles in the better magazinesappear frequently, and each year sees some new book on the subject. Every NationalTournament has been larger than the one before; every season sees more clubs, andindividual archers are everywhere. The famous double York Round record of theEnglishman, Horace Ford, which remained a mark to shoot at for over fifty years, has beenbroken so many times that one rarely alludes to it any more. Scores that are well nighimpossible have been set up - only to be broken again and again. Interest in archer iswidespread and genuine.Hunting laws, specifically mentioning Bows and Arrows, indicate how widely these primitiveweapons are used for taking game. Many states, Oregon in particular, have set aside forestpreserves where hunting is permitted only with Bows and Arrows. The archer's implementsare the true weapons of the real woodcrafter and conservationist. Deer and all manner of small game are constantly being taken by the archer. It is indeed a proud moment when yourhunt with the bow and arrow is successful. You knew the quarry had every chance, and it wasyour own skill and strength of arm that won.
