Bitter Land for violin and piano was composed especially for Elena Denisova and Alexei Kornienko who gave the premiere performance on February 12, 2013. The four movements are: I. Spirit, II. Schism, III. Desolation, IV. Conciliation.

The work is a reflection of the recent economic and political turmoil of the composer's native country, Greece, as well as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of its people.
