How could I explain
how I
m learning
to my 13 year old?Use a metaphor. My metaphor for learning is;
I
m learning how to charge my own batteries

The wall socket
 –
Sources of Knowledge (Theories, Models andConcepts)
 –
a network of universal access points e.g. University,Books and LiteratureThe AC current
 –
Experience, like the current is a powerful way tolearn, but sometimes the shock can hurt you.Customisation (Takes AC power from the mains and converts andstores the DC power in the battery for later use) Taking theknowledge and experience and customising to local use perhaps inthe use of stories or examples. The batteries are now Charged with intellectual energy to solveproblems. Each battery could represent an area that I
ve studied. So if this is a revelation, how did I receive my (intellectual) energybefore?
 –
That was easy to answer; they were somebody
else’s
batteries. Perhaps a loan of partly charged battery from a linemanager or even buying a fully charged disposable battery from goingon a training course e.g. PRINCE2 project management training. So why not just keep taking those batteries and getting your energyfrom those? - That
s worked in the past. It has, but I find that thebatteries soon loose their charge, especially when I used them in thewrong situation. So what is happening now, do you think? - I
m starting to discoverthat I have my own wall sockets that I can plug my charger into andtherefore tapping into my own source of AC
 –
I
m starting to look toat adding more batteries to my DC charger
