SnapQuickly resize windows to view side-by-side for comparison, or full screenYou spend most of your time jumpingaround from window to window insideyour PC. This feature helps makethat easier and faster. Seems trivial,but once you start using it, you'll seethat it's very valuable. Now you can goto ONE place to work with files thatactually reside in either location.For most users this may seem trivial,but you could argue that this is one ofthe most strategic developments inWindows 7. Lets you consolidate howyou access all the information thatyou work with into a single view, evenif some of the info exists on yourlocal machine while some resides outon your network.H/P/UTwo things:1. Some stuff in Windows 7 hasmoved around or is referred to as aslightly different name (like theControl Panels), so you can spendyour time rooting around thefilesystem to find the file and whereit's buried, or you can just type inthe name or topic in the search boxon the Start Menu (or upper-rightcorner of the Explorer window) tofind what you're looking for.2. If you've tried to do searches ofnetwork drives via XP by accessingserver-based indexes, it was a pain(VISTA was actually much better atthis). Windows 7 has streamlinedthis so that it recognizes the indexon the server so you get quicksearches, even of network-baseddrives.PreviewPaneLets you see the contents of a filebefore you open it. Valuable toolwhich will be new to Windows XPusers.Nice feature that was added inVISTA. Its a button on the WindowsExplorer upper-right-hand corner thatlets you see a preview of what theselected file actually looks like. Youcan make the preview bigger orsmaller. SnippingToolNeed to take a picture of somethingon the screen for an e-mail orpresentation? Now you can...Seems trivial, but this is truly a veryhandy tool. Getting an error messagepopping up that you don'tunderstand? Open the Snipping Tool,grab a picture of the actual errormesage, and immediately e-mail it toyour support engineer. No moretrying to copy arcane error messagenumbers or message text! Veryhandy!H/P/UProblemStepsRecorderThe #1 MOST important addition toWindows 7! Lets you "record" whatyou are doing when you are having aproblem so you can send it to yoursupport engineer. Also useful if you'retrying to teach someone to use anapplication.Ever been on the phone trying toexplain to an engineer what you weredoing when your computerproblem/error occurred? (or everbeen the engineer on the other endtrying to understand what in the worldthis person was doing to cause theerror?). Problem Steps Recordersolves BOTH of these problems byletting the engineer essentially "watchover your shoulder" as you showhim/her what you were doing thatmade the problem occur. Creates asingle ZIP file that you can e-mail tosupport, and they can see a "slideshow" of everything you did (everyclick, every window, etc.) You caneven add notes to further annotatethe recording.H/P/UCalculatorYes, even the lowly Calculator is nowbetter. Capture "History" (rememberthe old adding machine paper tapeshowing what you've done...), as wellas built-in mortgage and date-basedcalculations.Some nice additions here, althoughnot earth-shattering. Looking torefinance your mortgage? Need toconvert one unit of measure toanother? Now you have another toolavailable to help you address thoseneeds.H/P/UConnecttoProjectorSimplifies how to connect to aprojector to show a presentation.How many presentations have youbeen to where the presenter couldNOT figure out how to get the imageon their screen to show up on theprojector (or it looked horrible)?
