What is slow performance?
What does
slow performance
 mean?
 Application responds slowly - latency
Application takes longer time to do a job
 –
 throughput
Interpretation varies wildly
Slower than expectation
Throughput is low
Latency is high
Throughput, latency fine but uses excessive resources (efficiency)
What are
high latency,

low throughput,
 and excessive resource usage?
These are subjective and relative
Both related to time

Bandwidth, Throughput, Goodput, Latency
Bandwidth vs. Throughput
Higher Bandwidth does not guarantee Throughput.
Low Bandwidth is a bottleneck for higher Throughput
Throughput vs. Goodput
Higher Throughput does not mean higher Goodput
Low Throughput is indicative of lower Goodput
Efficiency = Goodput/Bandwidth Throughput vs. Latency
Low Latency does not guarantee higher Throughput and vice versa
Throughput or Latency alone can dominate performance
