Civil Emergencies, including pandemics

37. The UK continues to increase preparedness for all kinds of civil
emergencies. The UK is rated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the best prepared countries for pandemic ‘flu,
building on the nationwide emergency response organisation and capabilities developed in the past few years.

38. Fulfilling a commitment made in Security in an Interdependent World, the Government published, for the first time, a National Risk Register last year, the first step in providing advice on how people
and businesses can better prepare for civil emergencies. Building on this, over the coming months the Government will announce plans to strengthen further corporate and community resilience.
