• Four SEC teams are ranked in the Associated Press and USAToday/ESPN preseason polls. Tennessee is ranked eighth by theAssociated Press and ninth in the coaches poll. LSU is ranked ninthin AP and 17th in coaches, while Vanderbilt is ranked 20th in thecoaches and 22nd in AP. Georgia is ranked 21st in the AssociatedPress poll. Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and SouthCarolina are receiving votes in the polls.• Three SEC players have been named preseason candidates for the2009-10 John R. Wooden Award. Included on the list of Top 30 are:Angie Bjorklund (Tennessee), Allison Hightower (LSU), AshleyHouts (Georgia).•Two SEC players headline the list of preseason candidates for the2009-10 Wade Trophy. Included in the list are Allison Hightower(LSU) and Ashley Houts (Georgia).• Georgia’s Ashley Houts has been named as a candidate for theLowe’s Senior CLASS Award.• Five of the top 10 scorers from last season return to the SEC. OleMiss’ Bianca Thomas ranked fourth last year with an average of 15.8ppg. Allison Hightower, LSU (5th - 14.9 ppg); Alexis Rack,Mississippi State (6th - 14.9 ppg); Shekinna Stricklen, Tennessee (9th- 13.3 ppg); and Victoria Dunlap, Kentucky (10th - 12.8 ppg) roundout the top 10.• The top two rebounders from last season return. The women’s basketball sectionis updated with new material daily, with standings, statistics, results, notesand other information. The SEC women’s basketball release can also beprinted off of the website in an Adobe Acrobat file.The SEC also offers a media-only website - www.SECsportsmedia.com.Media covering the SEC can retrieve information from the conference officeas well as the 12 SEC institutions from the media site. An internet photogallery, logos and a championship credentialing system for SEC women’sbasketball is available on the site. (The site houses all media informationfor the other 19 sports the SEC sponsors).
SEC Release
The SEC women’s basketball release is updated following each daythat games are played. Standings, team-by-team results, notes andstatistics will be updated as often as needed based on the scheduleof play. Any media representative wishing to receive informationvia email should register for the SEC Media site atwww.SECsportsmedia.com. Information is also available on eachschool’s website.
SEC Player and Freshman of the Week
The SEC will name a Player and a Freshman of the Week in women’sbasketball each Monday of the regular season. Selections will beannounced in the weekly release and on the conference website atwww.SECsports.com.Nominations for the award are made by the women’s basketballMRD contacts and are selected by a vote of the SEC Media Relationsstaff.
SEC Tournament
The 2010 SEC Women’s Tournament will be held March 4-7 at TheArena at Gwinnett Place.

SEC Coaches Teleconference
The SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament teleconference willtake place Monday, March 1 at 1 p.m. (CT). All twelve coaches willappear in alphabetical order by school for five minutes each.The postseason teleconference is set for Wednesday, March 17 at1 p.m. (CT). On Feb. 7, 1980, the first SEC women’s basketballtournament began play. It ended four days laterwith Tennessee defeating Ole Miss for the title. Fastforward 29 years later and the SEC Tournament isstill enjoying success and increased popularity.Beginning with its inception and through 1986,the tournament was held at campus sites. The tournament was thensent to Albany, Ga., which served as the site for six years from 1987-92. The tournament then moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., where itwas was held from 1993-2000, with the exception of 1998 when thetournament moved to Columbus, Ga.Since 2001 the tournament has enjoyed many new sites, includingMemphis (2001), Nashville (2002, 2004, 2008), North Little Rock,Ark. (2003, 2006, 2009), Greenville, S.C. (2005) and Duluth, Ga.(2007, 2010).This year the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament makes a returntrip to Duluth Ga. and The Arena at Gwinnett Center.The winner of the 11-game tournament will receive the league’sautomatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The tournament seeds andconference champion will be determined by the 14-game regular-season SEC schedule. The top four seeds earn a first-round bye.The 2010 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament will once againenjoy live television coverage. FS South continues its dedication toSEC events by televising all first round and all second round games.The semifinals will be aired on ESPNU for the first time, while thechampionship game will again be televised on ESPN2.Public tickets for this year’s event will go on sale October 10 and canbe purchased through the SEC website or by calling 1-800-732-4849.Prices are: reserved tournament book, $90; general admission DrPepper Six-Pack tournament book, $60; reserved single-session (sixsessions total), $17; and general admission single-session, $12 (canonly be purchased day of event at arena box office).
