The historic land claims agreement that became Nunavut is entering its ninth year.We are witnesses of a grand experiment – an empowering force that ripples throughout the landand all around the world. Models for community development, social, judicial and educationaladvances and above all, the preservation and celebration of Inuit heritage, are putting Canada’snewest territory on the world stage.2007 / 2008 has been declared the International Polar Year (IPY). Celebrating the 125thanniversary of this global research initiative, the IPY community will be providing new insightsinto global processes, past and present, and coordinating global campaigns with a bipolar focus.This year’s agenda will address climate change as measured by local impact and adaptation and
the health and well being of the Inuit communities. As always, we will carry experts in these elds
who will provide insight and challenging dialogue.
