What is it?
Google Maps is a powerul, user-riendly mapping toolavailable on the internet and viewed in yourweb browser. In addition to driving directionsand local business inormation, Google Mapsalso provides terrain maps, satellite imagery,and (in places) a 360 degree photographic“street view” o the real world. Using the “MyMaps” eature students and teachers can alsocollaborate to create their own custom mapsby adding new placemarkers that include text,images, and video. Custom Google Maps can beshared by copying a simple web link or embeddingthe map in a class website.
Why use it?
Students can use Google Maps to:
Keep track o class pen pals
Take virtual tours o countries where a languagethey are studying is spoken. (Include planning orlocal transportation, site-seeing, dining and hotelreservations!)
Learn about animal and plant lie by embeddinginormation in maps o dierent habitats.Teachers can use Google Maps to:
Plan a feld trip with students.
Create a map o the school or school events or parents.
Teach history by embedding primary documents intointeractive maps or students to explore.
