“We aren’t doing anything extraordinary, we are simply successful because weare doing quite normal things in an extraordinary manner.” Ueli Prager, the founder of Mövenpick
When Ueli Prager – the founder of Mövenpick – was looking for a name for hisfirst restaurant, which opened in Zurich in 1948, he went for a walk along theshores of Lake Zurich and was taken by the sight of a seagull (“Möwe” inGerman) which elegantly picked up its delicacies in mid-flight. This idea gavewings to a fruitful concept: affordable gastronomy of the highest qualitywithout waiting times. The Mövenpick Group has remained faithful to thisvision until the present day. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts have successfullyimplemented this mission since 1973 and maintain a brand name, which is asynonym for warm-hearted hospitality and quality. The first step in the hospitality business was already taken in 1966 with theconstruction of the Jolie Ville Motor Inn in Adliswil near Zurich. The officialstart of the Mövenpick Hotel Group then came with the opening of two hotelsnear Zurich Airport and in Regensdorf. The first hotel which opened outsideEurope was the Mövenpick Hotel Jolie Ville in Cairo in the immediate vicinityof the pyramids in 1976. There
the system of management contracts mostcommonly and successfully used today
was tested for the very first time. In1980, the first Mövenpick Hotel in Germany opened in Ulm/Neu-Ulm. Theportfolio in this country has meanwhile grown to 17 properties.
