HEADLINE: CAUGHT, THE MP LOVE RAT

The EXPRESS
BYLINE: By Greg Swift
THE love rat MP who accused a doctor of lying about their relationship sent
her racy e-mails about his desire for her.
Liberal Democrat Paul Marsden, 35, has been accused by psychiatrist Rita
Pal, 31, of offering her parliamentary help in return for sex.
The MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham on Monday dismissed the allegation as
"absolutely untrue" but the Daily Express has evidence which shows the true
extent of the married MP's feelings for the doctor.
One message, sent to Dr Pal's private e-mail address on January 31, 2002,
concludes: "You have turned my world upside down in the last few days and made
me start to think about things.
"You know I would help you in any way that I could, don't you?
Good luck with the new job and don't get too stressed.
"I hope that you don't think that I communicate (flirting wise) with anyone
else. You just excite me and I haven't felt like that in a long time.
"I've yearned to see you and give you a big hug and a tender kiss. I can't
remember the last time I've been so honest with anyone either. It's worrying."
The MP - who last week admitted twice cheating on his wife Shelly while she
was ill - signed off: "You are my Princess Rat. In the nicest possible way. Love
King Rat XXX."
The MP remained tight-lipped about his extra-marital affairs when he
appeared in court yesterday in connection with a dispute over the hire of
computer equipment.
Mr Marsden, who defected from Labour in 2001 in protest at the war in
Afghanistan, was ordered to pay his former party GBP 1,117.57, with GBP 195
costs.
The MP was supported by his wife and a Lib Dem spokesman spoke on his behalf

but Dr Pal was less reticent.
She said: "I am not a liar and never have been. Paul Marsden was sexually
provocative.
"He hurt me very much by his insistence and graphic details to the point
where I was in tears. It has hurt me a great deal to have lost a friend because
he could not control his sex drive. I did not sleep with him and he lost
interest in me. He is a serial adulterer.
If that is not lying, what is?"
Mr Marsden also faced further censure from his party whips after dismissing
reports that American intern Christina Tretter demanded a transfer from his
office after he tried to kiss her.
The MP denied any impropriety but party sources confirmed he had been spoken
to and warned about his conduct.
A Lib Dem spokesman said:

"This matter is a personal one for Paul Marsden. We are satisfied we have
dealt with things appropriately."
