Ajay (8), son of Shankar Mallah in Kantit locality of Mirzapur, wasastudent of class Il at Pandit Ram Chandra Mishra Inter College in Vindhyachal. On November 5, when Ajai tried to play hookey from school during lunch break, Principal SK Dubey nabbed him andbru- tally beat him up, causing frac- tures in his shoulder and ribs. - The next day Ajai's father Shankar went to the college, where the principal regretted the incident and gave Rs 100 for Ajai's treatment, a report from Mirzapur said this evening. After initial treatment at a community health centre, Ajai was taken to the Mirzapur District Hospital on November 11, where Dr Sanjay Kannaujia attended him. However, Ajai died the same night. This morning when locals led. by BJP leaders went to the col- lege, they found it closed and the principal and teachers abscond- ‘from Vindhyachal police station reached the spot and took possession of Ajai's body for autopsy, after which an FIR against the principal was lodged.
