Community Dance Artist (Ballroom) Needed
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has secured funding from the West Midlands PeopleDancing programme, funded by the Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England WestMidlands and Advantage West Midlands to deliver dance workshops in the city. PeopleDancing is part of the West Midlands Culture Programme for London 2012. It is a threeyear programme that uses the inspiration of the London 2012 Games to get as manypeople as possible dancing across the West Midlands.
Details
A Ballroom Dance Artist is required to deliver a series of 6 half day dance workshops inStoke-on-Trent before 31 March 2010. Written quotations from community dancepractitioners are sought to deliver the activity as part of the council’s ‘World of Dance’project.
Dance Artist Brief 
To deliver a series of 6 half day Ballroom dance sessions (2 hours 30 minuteseach) in various community settings across the city. All the sessions will beindoor. Details of the venue and time will be supplied to the dance artistfollowing appointment.
To introduce or reintroduce participants to Ballroom dancing. Dependent upondemand the sessions will either comprise teaching Ballroom dancing to completebeginners (requiring more than one session) or take the form of giving ‘refresher class’ instruction to participants whom have previously done Ballroom /Sequence dancing.
The appointed dance artist will have responsibility for and be committed tosafeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerableadults for ensuring that those participating are protected from harm
To plan the content of each of the sessions
To offer encouragement and choreographic support to the people taking part.
To supply all music for the sessions ensuing that all equipment is PortableAppliance Tested in line with current legislation, see www.pat-testing.info
To complete an attendee register, issue and ask people to complete a basichealth questionnaire and ensure that a sample of post-event questionnaire’s arecompleted. Completion of these standard monitoring and evaluation forms is arequirement of the People Dancing project. The full monitoring and evaluationguide can be seen at www.wmfor2012.com
To provide the city council with a description of the dance workshop that may beincluded in any pre event publicity produced by us.
To allow the city council to capture a small number of workshop photographs
The artist appointed will be encouraged to record their thoughts on the WestMidlands Culture Programme blog link http://www.myspace.com/wmculture 
Person Specification
Essential
Have a dance qualification (degree or similar).
 
A minimum of 2 years professional dance experience of teaching dance in acommunity and/ or education setting and a desire to inspire people to dance.
Experience in teaching Ballroom Dancing.
Have excellent teaching ability with participants of all ages, abilities andbackgrounds
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience and empathy with people, particularly young people
Good time management, organizational and planning skills
Public Liability Insurance up to £5 million
A valid driving license and own transport
Music equipment that is PAT tested
Hold a current enhanced CRB checkDesirable
Experience of inclusive practiceLegalThe dance artist appointed is responsible for their own tax and national insurance. Theterms and conditions of the appointment including details of the task, financialinformation, indemnity, termination, assignment of third parties and contact informationwill be set out by agreement.Advanced CRBAn enhanced CRB check will be mandatory. The dance artist will also be required toprovide identification to staff for verification before each workshop commences.
