James Paxton
 made his first rehab start with Tacoma on May 24 (G1), but did not factor into the Rainiers 4-3 win over El Paso. He allowed 3 runs (2 ER) on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5 in 3.0 innings. Paxton, 25, left the game on April 8 in the sixth inning with a left latissimus dorsi muscle strain after allowing three runs in 5.0+ innings to get the win. He is 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA (7 ER, 36.0 IP) in the first 6 starts of his Major League career (debuted 9/7/13 vs. TB), the lowest ERA by a Mariners pitcher through the first 6 career starts (no relief appearances) in club history, bettering the 1.84 ERA by Felix Hernandez in 2005.

Roy Howell
 is the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Mariners organization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).
