The National Adult Literacy Data-base (NALD) expanded its ser-vices late in 2007 with the launchof NALD@Work, a website thatwill benefit theworkplace liter-acy and essentialskills communityin Canada.NALD@Workwww.naldatwork.ca is an Internet database of infor-mation and resources. It is a one-stop shopping site for programmodels and approaches, teaching, learning and research materials, news, events, contacts, websites, tools and support – all available inone central location. The NALD@Work Library con-tains important resources, manyof which are not available elec-tronically anywhere else. It isavailable to anyone, anywhere, atany time, at no cost, in both Eng-lish and French.NALD’s Chief Executive OfficerKatherine d’Entremont says indi-viduals must have a firm founda-tion of literacy and essentialskills to participate fully in theworkforce.‘‘As the workforce becomes moreknowledge-based, people needhigher literacy levels,” she said.“If people don’t continue to learnor to read or to study, their liter-acy levels are not going to remainconstant; they are going to de-cline. At the same time, the work-place requires higher literacy lev-els, so the gap is widening.”
