of the unit standards for your programme youll come out with a

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Nine NCEA Level 2 credits in a science subject (preferably biology) plus
12 NCEA Level 1 credits in both literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
All students will be required to complete a Criminal Declaration form.
NB if you do have a criminal conviction(s), you may be asked to present
a copy of your criminal record
If English is your second language, a minimum IELTS (Academic) score of
5 with no band score lower than 5, is required.
If you are 20 years of age or older at the time you start your studies you
may apply to WelTec under special admission criteria.
WORK PLACEMENT HOURS
As part of this programme you will need to complete compulsory work
placement hours. The primarily placement for these will be at the SPCA
facilities in Wellington, therefore some travel will be required.

The National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing will provide you with a range of
clinical, surgical and diagnostic skills that will prove invaluable to a career in
veterinary nursing. Learn industry-relevant skills with veterinary clinic work
placements, in addition to one class each week taught in a surgical setting.
Your learning will take place in an environment with the latest facilities and
equipment, taught by tutors who are highly qualified and experienced in
their fields.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
> Get real-world work experience and allocated surgery days
> Learn surgical skills, including preparing patients for surgery, assisting
in surgical procedures and anaesthesia
> Gain knowledge of clinical skills, including nursing hospitalised patients,
admitting and discharging animals, dispensing drugs and fluid therapy
> Develop diagnostic skills, including radiography of animals and
collecting and testing diagnostic samples
> Learn the expected standards of professional behaviour
> Gain knowledge in the area of parturition
> Recognise normal and abnormal conditions and behaviour of animals
> Learn methods of transporting cats and dogs
> Gain skills in industry reception services and sales skills
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
