Statement by Jim Coughlan:
"I entered this race for Senate because I wanted to make a difference and, more importantly, try and make New York State a better place to live. "As we begin the process of circulating petitions, it is more important than ever to rally together rather than tear each other apart for personal political gain. Unfortunately, the relentless attempts made by a select few of Albany insiders to discredit candidates in this race has only served as a distraction in what should be a more honorable process. The people of the 41st Senate district deserve better and its time to start focusing on the issues affecting families of Dutchess and Putnam Counties. "As I have said from the beginning of my candidacy, the ability to unite all three party lines will be crucial to our ability to take back the 41st New York State Senate seat. While I am humbled by the support so many have shown to my campaign over the last several months, I remain committed to this principle. "Today, I announce that I have decided to withdraw from the race for the 41st New York State Senate race. It's about what's best for the District and not about what's best for me. "Now is the time to rally behind the candidate that can provide our best chances of winning back this seat. I believe Sue Serino is the best person to unite all three lines and will be a strong voice in Albany for the people of the 41st Senate District. "I wish to thank everyone who supported me through this whole process, especially the Dutchess County Conservative Party and its Chairman, Hal Brilliant, for their endorsement and belief in my candidacy." ###
