Reasons to Reflect on Your Baptism #4. Your baptism serves a similar purpose, but is
superior to circumcision. Circumcision and Baptism are both seals and signs. They are
seals of ownership, marking the children of God and applied at the time of birth into the
appropriate Covenant. The New Covenant is superior to the Old, so its seal of ownership
must be superior, too. Both are also signs, pointing to the need for cleansing from sin in the
human heart. One points forward to Christ's coming, and is bloody. The other is bloodless,
pointing to the work Christ accomplished through His blood. For this reason, baptism is a
superior sign than circumcision. "...and in Him you were also circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the
circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also
raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."

Helpful Quotes
As a sacrifice, our sins were laid upon Him, (Isa. 53); as a Priest, He bears them, (Ex.
28:38); and as an Advocate, He acknowledges them to be His own. (Ps. 69:5). J. Bunyan

God.... will not lightly or easily lose His people. He has provided well for us: blood to wash
us in; a Priest to pray for us, that we may be made to persevere; and, in case we foully fall,
an Advocate to plead our cause. John Bunyan

This is the true obedience, whether to God or man, when we look not so much to the letter
of the law, as to the mind of the lawmaker. John Trapp

God commands nothing but what is beneficial. O Israel, what does the Lord require of you,
but to fear the Lord your God, and to keep His statutes, which I command you this day, for
your good? To obey God, is not so much our duty as our privilege. Thomas Watson
