yes builder, you are right that world functions on power, media and the followers but these are not the factors to form the basis whether God exists or not.
In view of religions, the books are the key factors to form the basis. Books will remain the same and will not be going to change; but media, power and followers won't. Conslusion about God is based on media, power and people and if they change in the future, will the conclusion about existance of God be changed then...of course it should not be so

usman, you are quite correct. But the world functions on the realities or power and the media, which means what the followers do, not on what the holy books say.
On the ground, there are far too many brutal Christians, for example, although Jesus of Nazareth was a peaceful man who preached nothing but peace.
What matters is what people do, not what is written in books.

After reading this article, it seems that almost all the perception on religious beliefs about God is taken from the media or the so-called “followers” of respective religions. In my opinion, the best way to perceive a religion is to study the authentic books of that religion because, especially in case of religions, followers can give wrong impression of the right thing. But the books have always been authentic source of a religion as opposed to the followers.
For instance, in case of Islam, I am very sorry to say that the information provided by you is absolutely absurd. In Islamic holy book, there is no reference of rewards for killing innocent people but punishments. Moreover, most of the great Islamic scholars have declared the suicide bombings as illegal according to Islam. Similarly, according to Islam, in heavens there would be “wives” (again number not specified in Islamic holy book) not “prostitutes” (the word “prostitute” in this reference is extremely inappropriate). Same can be the case with perception of other religions.
So Builder, in short, if the perception about belief of God in religions is based on such wrong/partial/biased studies (intentionally or unintentionally)then it becomes very doubtful that one can reach to the right conclusion.

If you want to see what rampant and inbrodled imagination can create in terms of human origins, the Desteni site listed in the comment before this is a great example. Even sci-fi fans will find it hard to swallow.
