The 97th Indian Science Congress, to be held from January 3 to 7, 2010 would be theKariavattom campus of the University of Kerala, Trivandrum.Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the University of Kerala are hosting thescience congressThe Indian Science Congress will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh onJanuary 3, 2010. The total number of delegates to participate in the event is expected totouch 7,000, with 5,000-odd delegates coming for the main event and over 1,500 schoolstudents for the National Children’s Science Congress that will be held along with the megaevent.The theme of the Congress would be ‘

Dear Members,It is my proud privilege and honour to be acting as the editor of the NE QuestJuly 2009 issue. I wish to thank Dr.Adhikari for graciously inviting me for the purpose. On the onset I, on the behalf of the NE India ResearchForum, wish to express my heartfeltapologies to the readers for the delay in bringing out this issue due certainunavoidable circumstances.As India transcend with its ambitiousgoal of transforming as a globalsuperpower, the importance of thenorth east region has never been sohigh ever before in realizing thisdream. The region can no longer be bogged down with the ills and artificialdifferences which has long been the bane towards progression. With thehuge reserve of untapped bioresourcescombined with the physical proximitywith the ASEAN and APEC countries,and the region need to realize its potential and progress. We need toexplore and reach out to each other torejuvenate the economy of Northeastwith a multi dimensional approach inan integrated manner. The initiativesshould include revolutionary changesin priorities to train and develophuman resources with the vision of using scientific knowhow for sustainable utilization andcommercialization of the naturalresources. With steps taken up such ascoming together and reaching outunder N.E. India Research Forum it isa humble beginning in the rightdirection.I also wish to thank all the contributorswho are graceful enough to submittheir informative articles, news items,theses abstracts etc. for this issue. Better late than never. I'll go through the pages of the issue and come back with feedback. It was nice to read travelogue of Sri Saitanya Bharadwaj . We're going to give an Add of NE Quest in our next issue, which will come up very soon.
