Common Eye Problems in StudentsCertain eye problems can affect certain groups of people. There are eye problemscommonly occurring in children and there are those which happen to older folk. Somehowever, are limited to students. Some of these are refractive error, squint, red eyes, eyeinjury and color deficiency. Refractive error can be identified in three types. These aremyopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.Myopia is commonly known as short-sightedness. Students with this particular eyecondition have blurry vision of distant objects. This is because the image is focused infront of the retina. Near objects are the only images they can see clearly. This particular refractive error is due to an elongated eyeball.
The eye doctor will recommend wearing proper corrective eyeglasses with concavelenses for clear vision of distant object.
Hyperopia, on the other hand is long-sightedness. Students with this particular eyecondition tend to have blurry vision of near objects. Images are focused behind the retina, resulting in a blurred vision. However, they can clearly see distant objects. Thiscondition happens when the eyeball is too short. One must wear corrective eyeglasseswith convex lenses to correct this.
This type of eyeglasses aids clearer vision without extra accommodation of the eyes.
Another type of refractive error condition is astigmatism. This is due to unequalcurvatures along the cornea. This eye condition causes rays from a luminous point not being focused at a single point on the retina, resulting in blurred images for both distantand near objects.
It is best to consult your eye doctor for whichever eye condition you have. These eyeconditions can be treated with corrective and prescription eyeglasses. Ensure you develophealthy reading habits to avoid these eye problems, too.Resources:Livermore Optometry Blog
