Ergonomic issues
After coming up with some conceptual sketches, I decided on an ergonomic shapethat would promote ease of use for my hand blender. The blender is a curvyshape with a small button area, the size of which allows the average hand tograsp comfortably. The shape of the blender is aesthetically pleasing.
Ease of use
There are two buttons on the blender, which I felt would promote safety duringuse as well as providing ease of use. The blender needs to be pushed in on bothbuttons to be used. This avoids accidental grabbing of the button and setting theblender in motion without warning. The blender bottom is attached to the bodyusing a mechanism like in a lightbulb. There are two prongs on either side of thetop of the blender bottom. These slot into the body and the user twists theblender bottom to attach the two parts together. I redesigned the mechanism inthe blender I had taken apart as I felt it was flawed. It was confusing for the useras it was not clear what direction to turn the blender bottom when attaching it.My idea is simpler, like a lightbulb, as the user can turn the part any way and itwill attach.
Design
I designed most parts myself, with exception of the spring in the switch and themotor. I found these on 3DContentCentral.com. I created the logo (Fig.1) onPhotoshop and placed it on the blender as a decal. The image I used for the logowas found using Google's image search.
