Welcome and Introductions
This lesson teaches learners to define the elements ofeffectivecommunication and its process.It will focus on communication as thebest way to convey meaning and introduce barriers to the communica-tion process.Students will learn the communication process loop and itskey elements.
The goal ofthis lesson is for each learner to:(1) Comprehend the elements ofthe communication process and(2) respond positively to it and how it applies to their goals and lives.
— Define effective communication— Explain the elements ofthe communication process,thebest communication approach (transaction),andinternal and external barriers.
— Describe the value ofeffective communication and itsvarious elements.
How it relates:

The concepts ofeffective communication,the com-munication process,and overcoming barriers are all critical pieces to ourability to function in the world and cooperate with others and are all tiedto our ability to communicate effectively.Learners were introduced to thecommunication process during the first day introductions.The Communication Process Loop should be displayed in the room.Throughout
