WALKER ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT: RHP Taijuan Walker has made 2 rehab starts with Tacoma, going 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (5 ER, 5.0 IP): June 3 at El Paso (2.0,1,1,1,4,4,HB) and May 28 vs. Salt Lake (L, 3.0,5,4,4,0,3,2HR). Walker was originally set to start at Tacoma on April 15, but was scratched due to shoulder tightness. Walker previously made a rehab start with Jackson on April 9 vs. Mississippi (W- 5.0,3,0,0,1,10,BK) and High Desert on April 4 vs. Inland Empire (4.1,4,2,1,1,7). Overall he is 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA (5 ER, 12.1 IP) in 3 rehab starts. He was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder impingement on March 29. He pitched in minor league intrasquad games, but did not appear in an A game this spring. Walker made his Major League debut with Seattle on Aug. 30 at Houston (5.0,2,1,0,1,2), recording the win. He was the 5th-youngest starting pitcher to make his MLB debut in Mariners club history (21 years, 17 days). Overall he went 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA (6 ER, 15.0 IP) in 3 starts with Seattle in 2013. He was also named the Mariners Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 9-10 with a 2.93 ERA (46 ER, 141.1 IP) in 25 starts combined between AA Jackson and AAA Tacoma.
COACHING STAFF: Roy Howell is the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Mariners organization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at short- season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02). Pitching coach Jaime Navarro, who is entering his 6th season with the Mariners organization, returns to the Rainiers after spending the last 3 seasons as the Mariners bullpen coach. Cory Snyder, who spent the last 3 seasons with Jackson, will serve as hitting coach. Tom Newberg and BJ Downie each return to Tacoma as part of the training staff, while Gabe Bourland will be the teams performance coach.

COACHING STAFF: After managing High Desert in 2013, James Horner will take over as manager of the Mariners affiliate in the Southern League, the Jackson Generals. Horner enters his 8th season with the Mariners (2005-10, 2013-current), but second as manager since returning to the organization prior to last season. Pitching coach Lance Painter returns to Jackson after spending the 2013 season with the High Desert Mavericks.
