HDI should also be lauded for providing inputs in the UN Resolution on Sustainable Mountain Development that was adopted late last year. Last December 28, 2007 they climbed Mission Peak in Califomia to celebrate the Founder’s birthday who was with them. Palawan is among the 7,107 islands inthe country that is blessed with lush virgin forest with great biodivesity of flora and fauna and rich colorful marine life ‘They took a boat from Manila to Coron Island then to Puerto Princesa - the capital city of Palawan. HDI members also sent leters of sympathy that were given to Matthew Lussenhop, the First Secretary and ‘Spokesman of the US Embassy in the lippines including the _ framed picture of the tree planted for Julia that bore inscription of HDI’s citation. Months passed, Linda Campbell, the ‘where Julia grew and the fact that the tree we have planted for her at the foot of Mount Apo half-way around the globe has led us to the very doorstep of her home. Linda Campbell welcomed us ‘warmly as we presented her a bouquet of flowers. She ushered us to the living room filled with Julia's memorabilia where my attention was caught by Julia’s big picture atthe fireplace beside the framed picture of the tree we planted for her. She then, showed us the various citations and told us of her daughter’s growing up ‘years including her work as a crime Jouralist in New York. Mendoza read HDI statement prepared for the visit thanking her for giving us an opportunity to express personally our sympathy. She was touched and thanked HDI for the sincere effort. Also thanked the Philippine Govemment and all. the Filipinos for the support and love bestowed to her daughter. She stressed as quote, “I have never had ill feelings towards Filipinos because ofJulias murder but Ido strongly feel that the man who murdered “her should not be allowed back amongst the peoples during his lifetime as 1 believe that he could repeat his act,” 1 fully nodded in agreement. ‘Then Linda brought us for a late lunch ata Thai Restaurant at downtown Fairfax and along the way she showed us where Julia went to school in that beautiful community filled with trees.
