respondedtotheWahkeenaFallsTrailheadafterahiker
wasreportedtobeoverduefromadayhikeyesterday
afternoon.MultnomahCountySheriff'sOfficedeputies
checkedtheareaandlocatedthehiker'svehicleattheWahkeenaFallsTrailhead.Effortstoping
thehiker'scellphonewereunsuccessfulandthelastcommunicationwiththehikerwasat
approximately3:30p.m.yesterdayafternoonwhenshetextedherboyfriendandsaidshewas
goinghikingnearMultnomahFalls.MultnomahCountySheriff'sOfficedeputiesnotifiedMCSO
SearchandRescueCoordinatorswhoactivatedMCSOSearchandRescueandtheMCSOGreen
HornetTrailRescueTeamtorespond.
At5:20a.m.MCSOGreenHornetshitthetrailsrunningfromtheWahkeenaFallsTrailhead.
TheGreenHornetWildernessLawEnforcementServicesandTrailRescueTeam"Green
Hornets"consistofanelitegroupofswornlawenforcementpersonnelwhoarephysicallyfit
enduranceathletesexperiencedwithhiking,andtrailrunning.Thegoaloftheteamistoreduce
responsetimesandperformahastysearchinandaroundtargetareasinSearchandRescue
operations.
AsadditionalSearchandRescueteamswereassemblingandheadingtothelocationtoprepare
forsearchoperationstheMCSOGreenHornetTrailteamlocatedthemissinghikerat
approximately6:20a.m.ThemissinghikerEmilyMetzofPortland,ORwasfoundonTrail#441
atthe1200footelevation.Shewasverycold,butotherwiseuninjuredandingoodcondition.
ShewasescortedoffthetrailbytheMCSOGreenHornets.
WhenaskedaboutherexperienceEmilysaidshewassetoutonadayhikeyesterdayafternoon
andhadfood,water,afirstaidkit,cellphoneandaheadlampinherbackpackwithherwhen
